The writer's neighbors, the Hicks family, live in town next to the writer. Each morning, the noise from their old truck wakes up their parrot, which then wakes the chickens. The chickens wake the goat, which wakes the monkey. This wakes the writer up as well. The Hicks have six children and work at the market. After dinner, Mr. Hick plays accordion while Billy plays guitar and Sara sings. However, the noise prevents the writer from studying or watching TV at night. The Hicks are a nice family, though noisy, and sometimes bring the writer eggs or fruit.
