This document provides a schedule and estimated time for completing the deliverables for Project 1. It outlines 5 steps students need to take to analyze a piece of their own writing and compose a memo report on its technical prose and presentation style. Step 1 involves reviewing the schedule and assignments. Step 2 focuses on reviewing lecture materials. Step 3 directs students to analyze their writing using a provided handout. Step 4 reviews optional podcast instructions. Step 5 covers recording an optional podcast. All deliverables, including a self-evaluation and memo report, are due by the specified Sunday deadline.

PROJECT 1 SCHEDULE: Week 1
Technical Prose and Presentation Speaking Style
The following schedule describes the steps you will need to do in order to compose
deliverables and the estimated time it will take most students to complete each step.
Estimated time you will need to complete this project: 12 hours.
Steps Do the Following Time
1 Skim the steps in this schedule, so you can plan how to manage your
time this week.
NOTE: if you have not already done so, read the syllabus.
Read Handouts:
• Student Class Introduction Assignment
• Project 1 Assignment Sheet
• How to Analyze Your Writing for Style and Noticeable Error
• How to Write a Self-Evaluation
From your prior writing choose an essay, report, or other non-fiction
writing you have done to analyze for this project. It should be at least
750 words, and it may work best if you use more than one piece.
Creative writing, including creative non-fiction will not work for this
project. If you do not have prior writing contact me, and I’ll give you
another way to do the project.
Student Class Introduction Due: Monday 5/17 before 11:59 PM
1 hour
2 Go through the following lecture slidedocs once to familiarize yourself
with the content. You will work more closely with these in step 3.
1. Format, Document Design, and Readability
2. Technical Prose and Presentation Speaking Style
3. Style vs. Grammar
4. How to Write the Memo Report. NOTE: Pay close attention to
the requirements for how to write your findings from the
analysis.

Steps Do the Following Time
3 Follow the directions in the handout: How to Analyze Your Writing
for Style and Noticeable error to analyze your writing.
This handout also has a tip to draft your memo report as you
analyze your writing, so consider doing that to save time and work
more efficiently.

4 The podcast is not required. You may submit one for extra credit if
you would like.
Study slidedoc 5: How to Compose the Podcast. Next, review the
options on the project 1 module page and decide how you will
create the audio-only podcast.
Do a test recording. If you encounter a technical issue, follow the
troubleshooting steps below the options.

5 Optional: Follow the requirements and guidelines in slidedoc 5, to
decide the general subject, narrow the focus of your podcast, and
write the script. Practice your script and record the podcast.
Don’t try to be perfect when recording.
2 hours
PROJECT 1 DELIVERABLES DUE: Sunday 5/23 before 11:59 PM
Submit your work to the project 1 drop box as follows:
1. Self-Evaluation: submit a Word or PDF file. Note: you are not required to write a self-
evaluation, but it is to your benefit to write one. If you wrote one, cut and paste the URL at the
top of your self-evaluation or in the comment section of the drop box.
2. Deliverable 1: Memo Report, submit a Word or PDF file.
3. Optional Deliverable 2 for extra credit: Podcast, cut and paste the URL at the top of your
self-evaluation or in the comment section of the drop box.
4. To avoid a point penalty, verify your submission.
