• Edgar albert guest (20th august 1871- 5th august 1959) was a british born American
poet who was popular in the first half og the 20th century.
• He is popularly known as people’s poet because his poems presented a deeply
sentimental view of everyday life.
4. EQUIPMENT
Equipment by Edgar Guest is a five stanza poem that is seprarated into sets of six
lines, or sextext.
The poem contains a speaker’s assertion that one has everything they need from
birth to find success.
The stanzas of the poem follows a consistent rhyme scheme that is aabbccdd
pattern.
The word “lad” in the first line appears as an apostrophe while in the last stanza it is
used as a book end.
5. The poet’s tone is optimistic and encouraging which creates an upbeat and
empowering mood in the listeners.
The poem helps to create a feeling in the readers that they can achieve anything
the “great men” can.
6. PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
The poem equipment is a student favourite because of the positive message the poem
put forth.
In this poem the poet is speaking to the young people or youth, challenging them to
look within and believe themselves.
the poet addresses them by using the term “Lad” and uses “Them” to address the great
men.
He says that god has provided all of us with the same “Equipments” that is two hands,
two legs, two eyes, and a brain to use.
7. the poet throws light on the fact that there is one difference between the youth
and the great men that is the will to go deep by using the brain wisely.
In the 1st stanza the optimistically insost that we are quite capable of doing
everything. The thing we should focus is the two words that is “I CAN”.
In the 2nd stanza the poet uses everyday examples to highlight the similarities
between “them” and the “Lad”. For that the poet uses a simple word similar.
The poet also wants the youth to become brave and smart.
8. in 3rd stanza the poet says that’s our obstacles are created by ourselves. We should
be capable to face our own doubts and overcome the fears. The major goal or aim
is to make the individual realize themselves, which cannot be done by others.
In 4th poet asks us to go our way discover our potentials, speak truth through out
life, study hard and believe in god that he will equip us to succeed.
In the last stanza the poet ignites the determination of the young minds so that we
the lads will give our levels best in our work to succeed.
The poet ends the poem by emphasizing the importance of speaking positive
words to and about ourselves or simply think, speak and act positively.
9. simerjeet singh recites the poem in a way which pays cent percent sincerity to the
poets emotion, messages and thoughts which he wanted to convey to the readers.
his recitation creates a positive vibe in the listener which help them to arise from
all the depressions, mood swings and pessimist thought.
Simerjeet’s recitation, makes the listener to say “I CAN” either in surviving or
overcoming any difficulties in life.
