7. CAUSES OF END-STAGE LUNG DISEASE
Primary pulmonary
hypertension
Is a general diagnosis that
means you have high blood
pressure in your pulmonary
arteries. These are the blood
vessels that carry oxygen-
poor blood from your heart
to your lungs.
8. Complications
Respiratory infections that make breathing much more
difficult and could cause more damage to lung tissue.
Increases the risk of heart disease, including heart attack.
Increased risk of developing lung cancer
High blood pressure in the arteries that carry blood to the
lungs (pulmonary hypertension).
Shortness of breath can prevent you from doing the
activities you enjoy. And dealing with a serious illness can
contribute to the development of depression.
9. Measures to prevent complications
Talk to your doctor if you
feel sad or helpless, or if
you think you may be
experiencing depression.
Get the flu vaccine every
year and the pneumococcal
pneumonia vaccine
regularly to reduce the risk
or prevent some infections
Quit smoking to help
reduce your risk of
heart disease and lung
cancer.
