SESSION #1: AREYOU EMPOWERED?
Empowered people do not just do
the ordinary. By definition, an
empowered leader is given power
to use it to strengthen the life of
others. This is what sets a leader
apart from the rest. But, how can
one become empowered?
4.
give (someone) theauthority or power to
do something.
make (someone) stronger or more
confident.
EMPOWERED
im'pouer verb • English
In LUKE 10,Jesus sends out 72 disciples to the harvest
field. The disciples were EMPOWERED to promote
peace, heal the sick, and even made demons submit in
the name of Jesus. How did these disciples come to
experience Jesus' empowerment?
7.
LUKE 10:2 NIV
2He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the
workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to send out workers into his harvest field."
The disciples made a choice TO BE
EMPOWERED:
• TO SEE THE BURDEN
8.
Continuous exposure toa need results in
a burden. A God-given burden cannot be
set aside. It will find its way back to the
heart of an empowered leader.
9.
LUKE 10:3 NIV
3"Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves."
• TO BE THE VESSEL
10.
Just like alock and a key, God has placed an
answer to every burden, but there must be a
willing vessel that can see both the burden
and the answer. God has a solution, but who
will be the willing vessel? To be empowered, a
leader must act on the burden.
11.
LUKE 10:4 NIV
4"Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not
greet anyone on the road."the road."
• TO ADMIT THE LACK
12.
Jesus knew thatthe disciples sent to the harvest field
were still lacking. So, God instructed the disciples what
not to bring and what not to do. In the following verses,
Jesus gave them further detailed instructions. This
showed how the 72 disciples were still unprepared for
what is to come. Therefore, to be empowered, a leader
must acknowledge the lack and still press on because
God will meet that leader in the lack.
13.
LUKE 10:19 NIV
9"I have given you authority to trample on snakes and
scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy;
nothing will harm you."
• TO RAISE A BANNER
14.
God provides theWord and the promise to a leader who
admits the lack. His Word becomes the leader's banner
raised during the difficulties and challenges of both life
and ministry. God's Word can be upheld because God
finishes what He starts.
15.

- JACKIE ROBINSON
19.
Significance is notdetermined by the achievements, position, or even
the amount of money that one has. As people get older, they come to
a realization that not all things they do and commit is significant.
Christians know that true significance is that which counts in heaven.
An empowered youth leader takes this to heart. Read Matthew 25:14-
30 & Luke 19:11-27
20.
MATTHEW 25:29 ESV
29For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will
have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even
what he has will be taken away.
21.
To every person,God bestowed talents. Are the talents
being put to good use as an act of faith? Or being put in a
shelf as an act of fear? The Parable of the Talents shows
the paralyzing effect of fear to the leaders who desire to
be significant. Signs that a leader is paralyzed by fear:
(Matthew 25)
22.
1 Accepts therole, but does nothing. (Matt. 25:18)
Linger on the negative. (Matt. 25:24)
Burries the privilege. (Matt. 25:25)
Misses the opportunities. (Matt. 25:26,28)

LUKE 16:10-12 isa reminder that God sets
basic principles that the world must follow.
Below are the said principles:
24.
1. Stewardship -"From Little to Great" (LUKE 16:10)
An empowered leader acknowledges that little things
matter to God. Leaders grow in significance by being
good stewards of the now "little" ministry. There will
be seasons of inactivity, but when God sees the
honesty in the little, God will make it grow.
25.
2. Inheritance -"From Earthly to Heavenly" (LUKE 16:11)
Through the principle of inheritance, God opens eyes to
what is truly valuable. Growing in significance challenges
leaders to reach a goal that has eternal impact, not
being blinded by the riches of the world and making use
of it to see what truly matters.
26.
3. Ownership -"From Borrowed to Owned"
(LUKE 16:12)
A leader who understands the principle of ownership
does not let the lack define the movement in the
ministry. Leaders make the most out of what has
been given, maximizing the true potential of the
youth.
27.
These principles thatthe world lives by have one thing
in common. It all operates on a basis of TRUST. The
results are determined depending on the ACTION or
INACTION taken after being entrusted. Do not just wait
for growth, empowered youth leaders seek to grow in
significance.
