1.0 LEADERSHIP
Leadership is the ability to guide, influence and inspire individuals or a group of people towards
a common goal or vision.
This involves, setting a direction, making proper decisions and motivating others to achieve their
best potential.
From the word ‘lead” we can derive direction as the key point and the index as far as leadership
is concerned. Leading means taking individuals from a place to a given place or direction.
1.1 A LEADER
A leader is therefore, a person with the ability to guide and influence individuals or a group of
people towards a certain vision by setting direction, making appropriate decisions and motivating
others to achieve their best potentials.
A leader from the definition should therefore have the following qualities:
✓ The ability to guide
✓ The ability to influence
✓ Direction setting capability
✓ Proper decision-making ability
✓ Ability to take responsibilities
1.2 SOURCE OF LEADERSHIP
Leadership absolutely comes from God and was began by Him. God is a leader over everything
on earth and in heaven and He exercises and depicts all the qualities of a leader.
Coming down to creation, in the beginning God created Adam and made him a leader to rule
over all creations and to have dominion. The first leader as a creation, Adam was a command of
God by his divine wisdom. Adam led all creation from the beginning by the command of God.
Someone could ask: if leadership is from God, then why is there leaders or rulers who humiliate,
kills and molest the people of God? God made man a leader over the entire creation, gave him
the instruction to lead but He also gave man a will since He is not a dictator. This means men can
choose to manipulate the good gift of leadership from God to harm others by their will under the
influence of the evil spirit that makes them have selfish ambitions.

2.0 KINGDOM LEADERSHIP
Leadership begins at a point of salvation but not necessarily when one is given an office or a
position. Leadership is an intrinsic or an inbuilt mandate of everyone that is born of God.
The responsibility of every believer is to lead others and the world to God in salvation through
evangelism, discipleship and example setting. This means that everyone that has accepted Christ
in his or her life must understand that he or she is already a leader and therefore should take
responsibility as a leader in the kingdom and live a life of a leader.
Before you are called to serve in a church or a given position, you need to know and understand
that you are already a leader. 1Chronicles 11;2 – in the past even while Saul was the king, you
are the one who lead Israel on their military campaigns and the lord your God said to you, “you
will shepherd my people Israel and you will become their ruler.”
The people are telling David that even while the time Saul was the king, its David that was a
sense of direction and leadership to the entire nation.
Numbers 25:1-13 – while Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual
immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate
the sacrificial meal and bowed down before this god. So, Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of
Peol. And the Lord’s anger burned against them. The Lord said to Moses, “take all the leaders of
this people, kill them and expose them in the broad day light before the Lord, so that the Lord’s
fierce anger may turn away from Israel.” So, Moses said to Israel judges, “each of you must put
to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peol.” Then an Israelite
man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole
assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting. When
Phinehas the son of Eleazer, the son of Aaron the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a
spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them,
right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the
Israelites was stopped; … the lord said to Moses, “Phinehas the son of Aaron the priest has
turned my anger away from the Israelites since he was as zealous for my honour among them as I
am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal. Therefore, tell him, am making my covenant of
peace with him. …
Though Moses was the leader of the Israelites, Phinehas the son of Eleazer realized he was a
leader and took up the responsibility that saved the entire nation from the wrath of God

3.0 LEADERSHIPAND OFFICE
As earlier stated, leadership comes from God and once someone has been born again, he or she
becomes a leader. Being called in an office or a docket either in the local church or in the unions
of Christian as a leader, now gives one a scope or a locus to exercise the authority given by God
in that organization or institutions.
Being called in an office means, now in addition to your spiritual dimension of leadership, you
have an administrative role to play within the jurisdiction of that office.
On addition to praying for people, preaching to them and leading them to Christ, one in office
has the added responsibility to ensure order and systematic and methodical approach to the
growth and development of individuals in all dimensions of life. These includes; organizing
relevant programs to enable the same, ensure proper facilitation of these programs and
monitoring the growth of the individual both in prayer, the word and in obedience to God in their
academic, economic and social lives.
It is the responsibility of the leader to ensure good health of the people he leads in terms of
prayer life, word life, social life and all other aspects of life and this is very possible and easy
when a leader set a good example.
One of the major principles that governs leadership in this kingdom that ensures effective and
efficient leadership, that sets a foundation for the bringing forth fruits that can bind is in proverbs
27:23.
Proverbs 27:23- be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to the
herds.
A leader must be intentional to know the condition of his subjects and understand them well.
This is both spiritually, economically, socially and all aspects of life and give a careful attention
to each of them. This forms a clear basis to determine the help that each need and also helps a
leader know how to handle each individual effectively.
“You can’t think of a solution to a problem you don’t know”.
Visit people, interact with them at a friendly level so that at the eventuality you may know what
is their potentials and what is their weaknesses or limitations. This is what I mean by knowing
them.

4.0 LEADING OUT OF LOVE
Now that you understand being a leader means to represent the authority of God on earth, it does
not mean you need to load it over your subject. This does not give you a permit to dictate them.
You need to understand that you are just a steward and not an owner, for owners in this kingdom
are rebels. You also need to know that your dominion is not an absolute dominion but a shared
dominion whose owner is God.
You should not expect people to submit to your verbal commands or force them to buy your
ideas. Proverbs 15:33- humility comes before honour. Men will honour you proportionally to
your level of submission to God but not because you are in office.
Men does not receive instructions from the lips of men but they read instructions and directions
from their heart. This means that you cannot force people to do what you do not believe,
convicted of or practice no matter how loud you shout.
Leading and giving instructions to your subjects is simply therefore, convicting them to believe
what you believe by scripturally explaining to them the importance of what you want them to do.
You should also remember; their hearts will read your motives before they submit.
In this kingdom we lead by convicting and not by command. Whatever you choose to do should
be out of love to advance the kingdom of God but not for selfish ambitions such as earning
yourself a name or proving your point. James 3:16. God is love and all he does is out of love and
so should it be to the representatives of his authority on earth. John 3:16.
Before doing anything or planning anything, weigh it on the scale of love, sincerely examine
your heart to see if it is a product of love or your ego or rather selfish ambitions. If it fails to pass
the test, if it is not out of love, then don’t even try to implement it rather get back to God in
repentance and conscience clearing and ask him what to do next.

5.0 NOW THAT YOU ARE IN OFFICE
All of us are called to be leaders by God and he still allows some people to serve in the office to
ensure order in his house. This means that He creates a central system of dispensing his authority
to the entire church. The examples are Moses, David, Peter, Stephen, Joseph and many others.
Being a leader therefore means, one is representing the authority of God in a union of Christians
or a church. And from Him others benefit from the same authority under its dispensation in love.
Accepting the call to serve in the office then simply mean that one has accepted to do the
following;
1. To live a life of setting example (proper Christ like character)
2. Taking responsibilities
3. Sacrificing your time, schedules and resources.
4. Walking with God to obtain a direction for you and your subjects.
This is because, you can’t expect people to grow by communicating to them substandard truths,
inaccurate directions or rather giving substandard food.
Now that you are in the office, know that God demands excellence and diligence from all you do.
This means you must consider:
• Your priorities (learn how to sort between urgent and important issues)
• Your strategies.
• Relevancy of whatever program you bring.

6.0 TO WHERE?
You cannot lead people to nowhere, you cannot just do everything carelessly in form of programs
and events that you don’t know what is their impact to people. Leadership is not all about
organizing programs and following routines.
An effective leader per the design of God, must have a vision and all he or she does should be
goal oriented to bring about realization of the vision. Before you implement or initialize any
program ask yourself the following questions;
1. What do you expect by the end of the program?
2. What do you expect by the end of the prayer meeting you are planning?
3. What impact does the program you are planning has to the kingdom?
God wants all to be saved and to grow to maturity in the likeness of Christ so that we may
eventually become a spotless church. The likeness of God means reflecting his nature even on
the earth. Any intention or agenda whose superior purpose is not to realize this is not worthy a
program. Therefore, a visionless leader is not a leader but just someone wasting the time of many
people. Proverbs 29:18- where there are no vision people cast off restraints but blessed are them
that heeds to the wisdom instructions.
Ministry is closed loop system; this means that our next input should be dependent on the
feedback from the previous outputs. You should be able to examine your objectives during
planning of the programs, consistently monitor it to ensure they are moving towards the
realization of the same, if not adjustments to be made in the process to ensure initial goal is
realized.

7.0 KNOW THIS TODAY
Let us use a simple case study of the university Christian union architecture. The constitution
will always specify the roles of each office bearer for example:
1. The secretary -writing minutes, making communications, keeping records etc.
2. Prayer coordinator- coordinating all prayer meetings.
3. Treasurer- keeping proper records of every money…
4. Vice chairperson- principal assistant to the chair, welfare etc.
These roles and responsibilities stated in the constitution are not the only roles we should play.
Infact, they are one of the minor roles we should play. One can say “am just a secretary and my
works is minutes.” So, thinking that he or she has no much work as compared to the chairperson
or the mission coordinator.
Know today that: your constitutional role is just to architecture your position in the leadership
tree but both of you have a spiritual assignment. God has chosen you for a spiritual assignment
and now your position is just a platform to perform it but not to be lazy. Ensure you do your
constitutional assignment well and diligently but remember you have a greater assignment at the
same time to accomplish. Apart from you being just the chairperson or the prayer coordinator
you must ensure you know what you represent in the spiritual real and ensure you become it.
By examples let’s understand this;
Esther: when Esther became the queen, she quickly realized by the help of Mordecai that this
was just a platform set by God for the deliverance of His people. She then never concentrated
only on the roles of the queen but she took an advantage to execute the plans of God to the
people. Her spiritual assignment mattered much to her but she also never forgot her
responsibilities as the queen and the king never complained.
Stephen: Stephen a man never mentioned before, only coming in place when chaos of material
distribution arises in the camp. He is then chosen and anointed to be in charge of material
distribution to the people of God. This simply means he was appointed to be in charge of welfare
or catering. But see what the catering coordinator is doing; Acts 6:8 -Now Stephen a man full
of God’s grace and power performed great wonders and sign among the people. This signs
and wonders drew men to God and many were saved due to the working of the holy ghost in the
pg. 11

life of Stephen. This did not just happen by coincidence; Stephen knew what he was representing
in realms of the spirit and he deliberately choose to do this to fulfill the agenda of God. He never
said since am a cook or welfare coordinate, he focusses on distributing food and other things to
be none of his business, he realy understood what it meant to represent the authority of God on
the earth.
Question:
Do you know what you represent in the kingdom of God?
Are you willing to take an advantage of the privilege of the office and its grace to execute
the agenda of God?

7.1 YOU ARE THE OVERSEER
Titus 1:7-9
Since an overseer manages Gods household, he must be blameless- not overbearing, not quick
tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not perusing dishonest gain. Rather he must
be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encourage
other by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
1Timothy 3:2
Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperament, self-controlled,
respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not
quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

8.0 THIS MAN MORDECAI
Mordecai is a perfect example of a true shepherd discussed in the holy scripture. He also serves
as a perfect example of a man that had submitted fully to God and died from his self. From the
definition of a leader, we’ve mentioned that a leader should be able to motivate, direct and
inspire others to reach their full potential.
Let us examine the life of Mordecai; Mordecai having knowledge that they were in a captivity
and someone with influence was needed for their deliverance, he never chose to become that
man. He saw the potential of influence in the life of his cousin Esther so earlier and chose to
secretly cultivate it. He was doing all these preparing Esther for the great assignment but she did
not know exactly what he was doing in her life.
Mordecai sacrificed his time and resources preparing Esther to be the queen but back in his mind
he was seeing a deliver in her. She did not just see Esther as a girl that is potential to be a queen
but she saw a deliverer in her. He then therefore decided to secretly develop the potential in
Esther until it was to full potential. He took many years to work on her and to ensure that she
becomes what she was supposed to. Probably Esther did not understand why Mordecai was so
determined to prepare her for this position and yet she was just a slave girl. Once she had gained
the stature and maturity to be a deliverer (gaining the influence or becoming the queen),
Mordecai then told her the real assignment she was preparing her for. She surely did well but all
these efforts and sacrifices were not by herself but by Mordecai a mere gatekeeper.
Leadership will be fruitful and very fruitful if we can choose to be the Mordecai. Carefully
identifying the potential in our subject and helping them to develop it until they reach their full
potential. At their full potentials God will be glorified in us.
Infact it is wickedness to see a kingdom potential in someone and fail to help them develop it
when you are in the position to do so. This simply means that you’re selfish and carnal to the
point that you don’t want people to do mighty things in the kingdom than you.
Our responsibility is to cultivate the greatness of God in our subjects so that they may
reach their full potential and also impact others.

9.0 HANDLING CHAOS AND ISSUES IN THE BODY OF CHRIST
Chaos and issues will never miss in the life on this earth but how we handle them dictates our
tomorrow as a church. Issues will range from disunity or disagreements between individuals,
misconduct of members, irresponsibility, sexual sin or just sin, improper response to directions,
disrespect and many more. How we handle this determines the strength of the church thereafter.
Earlier we said leadership must be out of love or within the boundaries of love and it is. But
should we tolerate every disorderly practice in the church because we want to appear loving?
No! this will mean we are not giving proper direction as it is supposed for a leader.
But also remember there is a way we can handle the effected party in a way that will offend him
or her, or look like condemning the person. This will cause this person to be lost more and more
but we don’t want to lose anyone to the world, God wants them all in the kingdom.
Let us learn from God in the book of revelation. God was angry about the conduct of men and
the sins that they were deliberately engaging. His wrath came over the earth and punished them
severely. People were killed by pledges, swords and many more as a result of their sins. Infact
the a third of the population of the earth was killed. Funny enough the scripture does not hide
from us that, each time the time of the wrath was complete the human population that remained
continued to sin more and more. The wrath of God could not draw men back to God but drove
them even more away. From the entire scripture, the only thing that has managed to draw men to
God and preserve them retaining them in his presence is his love through Jesus Christ. It is only
his love that managed this. He won us for him only by love.
We must therefore communicate the truth in all situations to our subjects but in love. Truth not
communicated in love is no longer truth but a condemnation. And love without truth is no longer
love, this needs its name.
Correct them, rebuke them as per the scripture but ensure it is in love. This means your language
in solving cases and issues should be seasoned with the wisdom of God. The choice of your
Words in addressing your subjects’ mattes a lot. Don’t just do it anyhow and justify yourself by
making the common saying; but I’ve told them the truth and I don’t care how they will take it.
No! there is a better way of doing everything. Let us emulate God as we serve.
pg. 15

9.1 EMOTIONS OF A SHEPHERD
A leader though is a man of God, he is a man. This is because even the great men are men and
nothing can refute this. All men have emotions and feelings and they respond to things and
situations accord to their feelings towards it. Things will happen when you shall find yourself
angry and offended many times but is there away a representative of the authority of God should
do?
I once said; maturity is the ability to lose power to react to situations but to gain grace to
respond to the same situations. Reacting to situations has a tendency of making situation worse
since the affected parties will try to defend themselves or justify themselves. But we are mortal
men operating in the physical body, what can we do?
Since a leader is influence and has been given power to influence others, he or she must be
careful to manage emotions well. One word uttered in anger by a leader in the presence of his
subjects can cause a one-year havoc in the body of Christ. Therefore, before you speak anything
in the presence of your subjects, examine well to check the consequences of your words.
In conclusion let as define emotional indices of a leader;
1. Do not let your emotions rule you.
2. Do not speak or do anything in the presence of your subjects in anger.
3. Separate your social life from service- don’t allow peoples offence to limit your service
to God. Learn to understand that if one man offends you it’s not the church or God that
has offended you.
4. Whether you feel like serving God or not, feel like playing your role or not ensure you
overcome the negative felling.
5. Stay positive.

10.0 MY CONFIDENCE
There came a man sent from God his name was John …
John 1:6-8 – there was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to
testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light;
he came only as a witness to the light.
God has chosen you to serve his people (not to be served) and he has made all provisions you
need available. Your strength, wisdom, provision and direction are readily available. What you
just need to do is to dive into his heart and draw all these things.
Don’t be disrupted by many things, one and only one major question you should be asking
yourself is; when the time to hand over to the next team or person will finally come, will I have
done what God chose me to do? Or have just done what I wanted?
Your confidence should be that you are sent from God.
GOD BLESS YOU!

  • 4. pg. 4 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 1.0 LEADERSHIP Leadership is the ability to guide, influence and inspire individuals or a group of people towards a common goal or vision. This involves, setting a direction, making proper decisions and motivating others to achieve their best potential. From the word ‘lead” we can derive direction as the key point and the index as far as leadership is concerned. Leading means taking individuals from a place to a given place or direction. 1.1 A LEADER A leader is therefore, a person with the ability to guide and influence individuals or a group of people towards a certain vision by setting direction, making appropriate decisions and motivating others to achieve their best potentials. A leader from the definition should therefore have the following qualities: ✓ The ability to guide ✓ The ability to influence ✓ Direction setting capability ✓ Proper decision-making ability ✓ Ability to take responsibilities 1.2 SOURCE OF LEADERSHIP Leadership absolutely comes from God and was began by Him. God is a leader over everything on earth and in heaven and He exercises and depicts all the qualities of a leader. Coming down to creation, in the beginning God created Adam and made him a leader to rule over all creations and to have dominion. The first leader as a creation, Adam was a command of God by his divine wisdom. Adam led all creation from the beginning by the command of God. Someone could ask: if leadership is from God, then why is there leaders or rulers who humiliate, kills and molest the people of God? God made man a leader over the entire creation, gave him the instruction to lead but He also gave man a will since He is not a dictator. This means men can choose to manipulate the good gift of leadership from God to harm others by their will under the influence of the evil spirit that makes them have selfish ambitions.
  • 5. pg. 5 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 2.0 KINGDOM LEADERSHIP Leadership begins at a point of salvation but not necessarily when one is given an office or a position. Leadership is an intrinsic or an inbuilt mandate of everyone that is born of God. The responsibility of every believer is to lead others and the world to God in salvation through evangelism, discipleship and example setting. This means that everyone that has accepted Christ in his or her life must understand that he or she is already a leader and therefore should take responsibility as a leader in the kingdom and live a life of a leader. Before you are called to serve in a church or a given position, you need to know and understand that you are already a leader. 1Chronicles 11;2 – in the past even while Saul was the king, you are the one who lead Israel on their military campaigns and the lord your God said to you, “you will shepherd my people Israel and you will become their ruler.” The people are telling David that even while the time Saul was the king, its David that was a sense of direction and leadership to the entire nation. Numbers 25:1-13 – while Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before this god. So, Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peol. And the Lord’s anger burned against them. The Lord said to Moses, “take all the leaders of this people, kill them and expose them in the broad day light before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.” So, Moses said to Israel judges, “each of you must put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peol.” Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting. When Phinehas the son of Eleazer, the son of Aaron the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; … the lord said to Moses, “Phinehas the son of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites since he was as zealous for my honour among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal. Therefore, tell him, am making my covenant of peace with him. … Though Moses was the leader of the Israelites, Phinehas the son of Eleazer realized he was a leader and took up the responsibility that saved the entire nation from the wrath of God
  • 6. pg. 6 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 3.0 LEADERSHIPAND OFFICE As earlier stated, leadership comes from God and once someone has been born again, he or she becomes a leader. Being called in an office or a docket either in the local church or in the unions of Christian as a leader, now gives one a scope or a locus to exercise the authority given by God in that organization or institutions. Being called in an office means, now in addition to your spiritual dimension of leadership, you have an administrative role to play within the jurisdiction of that office. On addition to praying for people, preaching to them and leading them to Christ, one in office has the added responsibility to ensure order and systematic and methodical approach to the growth and development of individuals in all dimensions of life. These includes; organizing relevant programs to enable the same, ensure proper facilitation of these programs and monitoring the growth of the individual both in prayer, the word and in obedience to God in their academic, economic and social lives. It is the responsibility of the leader to ensure good health of the people he leads in terms of prayer life, word life, social life and all other aspects of life and this is very possible and easy when a leader set a good example. One of the major principles that governs leadership in this kingdom that ensures effective and efficient leadership, that sets a foundation for the bringing forth fruits that can bind is in proverbs 27:23. Proverbs 27:23- be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to the herds. A leader must be intentional to know the condition of his subjects and understand them well. This is both spiritually, economically, socially and all aspects of life and give a careful attention to each of them. This forms a clear basis to determine the help that each need and also helps a leader know how to handle each individual effectively. “You can’t think of a solution to a problem you don’t know”. Visit people, interact with them at a friendly level so that at the eventuality you may know what is their potentials and what is their weaknesses or limitations. This is what I mean by knowing them.
  • 7. pg. 7 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 4.0 LEADING OUT OF LOVE Now that you understand being a leader means to represent the authority of God on earth, it does not mean you need to load it over your subject. This does not give you a permit to dictate them. You need to understand that you are just a steward and not an owner, for owners in this kingdom are rebels. You also need to know that your dominion is not an absolute dominion but a shared dominion whose owner is God. You should not expect people to submit to your verbal commands or force them to buy your ideas. Proverbs 15:33- humility comes before honour. Men will honour you proportionally to your level of submission to God but not because you are in office. Men does not receive instructions from the lips of men but they read instructions and directions from their heart. This means that you cannot force people to do what you do not believe, convicted of or practice no matter how loud you shout. Leading and giving instructions to your subjects is simply therefore, convicting them to believe what you believe by scripturally explaining to them the importance of what you want them to do. You should also remember; their hearts will read your motives before they submit. In this kingdom we lead by convicting and not by command. Whatever you choose to do should be out of love to advance the kingdom of God but not for selfish ambitions such as earning yourself a name or proving your point. James 3:16. God is love and all he does is out of love and so should it be to the representatives of his authority on earth. John 3:16. Before doing anything or planning anything, weigh it on the scale of love, sincerely examine your heart to see if it is a product of love or your ego or rather selfish ambitions. If it fails to pass the test, if it is not out of love, then don’t even try to implement it rather get back to God in repentance and conscience clearing and ask him what to do next.
  • 8. pg. 8 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 5.0 NOW THAT YOU ARE IN OFFICE All of us are called to be leaders by God and he still allows some people to serve in the office to ensure order in his house. This means that He creates a central system of dispensing his authority to the entire church. The examples are Moses, David, Peter, Stephen, Joseph and many others. Being a leader therefore means, one is representing the authority of God in a union of Christians or a church. And from Him others benefit from the same authority under its dispensation in love. Accepting the call to serve in the office then simply mean that one has accepted to do the following; 1. To live a life of setting example (proper Christ like character) 2. Taking responsibilities 3. Sacrificing your time, schedules and resources. 4. Walking with God to obtain a direction for you and your subjects. This is because, you can’t expect people to grow by communicating to them substandard truths, inaccurate directions or rather giving substandard food. Now that you are in the office, know that God demands excellence and diligence from all you do. This means you must consider: • Your priorities (learn how to sort between urgent and important issues) • Your strategies. • Relevancy of whatever program you bring.
  • 9. pg. 9 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 6.0 TO WHERE? You cannot lead people to nowhere, you cannot just do everything carelessly in form of programs and events that you don’t know what is their impact to people. Leadership is not all about organizing programs and following routines. An effective leader per the design of God, must have a vision and all he or she does should be goal oriented to bring about realization of the vision. Before you implement or initialize any program ask yourself the following questions; 1. What do you expect by the end of the program? 2. What do you expect by the end of the prayer meeting you are planning? 3. What impact does the program you are planning has to the kingdom? God wants all to be saved and to grow to maturity in the likeness of Christ so that we may eventually become a spotless church. The likeness of God means reflecting his nature even on the earth. Any intention or agenda whose superior purpose is not to realize this is not worthy a program. Therefore, a visionless leader is not a leader but just someone wasting the time of many people. Proverbs 29:18- where there are no vision people cast off restraints but blessed are them that heeds to the wisdom instructions. Ministry is closed loop system; this means that our next input should be dependent on the feedback from the previous outputs. You should be able to examine your objectives during planning of the programs, consistently monitor it to ensure they are moving towards the realization of the same, if not adjustments to be made in the process to ensure initial goal is realized. Define your purpose Identify available supporting systems Choose appropriate materials Define the how Implement Check the progress Complete NB: I blind Christian is in danger but a blind Christian leader is disastrous
  • 10. pg. 10 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 7.0 KNOW THIS TODAY Let us use a simple case study of the university Christian union architecture. The constitution will always specify the roles of each office bearer for example: 1. The secretary -writing minutes, making communications, keeping records etc. 2. Prayer coordinator- coordinating all prayer meetings. 3. Treasurer- keeping proper records of every money… 4. Vice chairperson- principal assistant to the chair, welfare etc. These roles and responsibilities stated in the constitution are not the only roles we should play. Infact, they are one of the minor roles we should play. One can say “am just a secretary and my works is minutes.” So, thinking that he or she has no much work as compared to the chairperson or the mission coordinator. Know today that: your constitutional role is just to architecture your position in the leadership tree but both of you have a spiritual assignment. God has chosen you for a spiritual assignment and now your position is just a platform to perform it but not to be lazy. Ensure you do your constitutional assignment well and diligently but remember you have a greater assignment at the same time to accomplish. Apart from you being just the chairperson or the prayer coordinator you must ensure you know what you represent in the spiritual real and ensure you become it. By examples let’s understand this; Esther: when Esther became the queen, she quickly realized by the help of Mordecai that this was just a platform set by God for the deliverance of His people. She then never concentrated only on the roles of the queen but she took an advantage to execute the plans of God to the people. Her spiritual assignment mattered much to her but she also never forgot her responsibilities as the queen and the king never complained. Stephen: Stephen a man never mentioned before, only coming in place when chaos of material distribution arises in the camp. He is then chosen and anointed to be in charge of material distribution to the people of God. This simply means he was appointed to be in charge of welfare or catering. But see what the catering coordinator is doing; Acts 6:8 -Now Stephen a man full of God’s grace and power performed great wonders and sign among the people. This signs and wonders drew men to God and many were saved due to the working of the holy ghost in the
  • 11. pg. 11 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias life of Stephen. This did not just happen by coincidence; Stephen knew what he was representing in realms of the spirit and he deliberately choose to do this to fulfill the agenda of God. He never said since am a cook or welfare coordinate, he focusses on distributing food and other things to be none of his business, he realy understood what it meant to represent the authority of God on the earth. Question: Do you know what you represent in the kingdom of God? Are you willing to take an advantage of the privilege of the office and its grace to execute the agenda of God?
  • 12. pg. 12 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 7.1 YOU ARE THE OVERSEER Titus 1:7-9 Since an overseer manages Gods household, he must be blameless- not overbearing, not quick tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not perusing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught so that he can encourage other by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. 1Timothy 3:2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperament, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
  • 13. pg. 13 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 8.0 THIS MAN MORDECAI Mordecai is a perfect example of a true shepherd discussed in the holy scripture. He also serves as a perfect example of a man that had submitted fully to God and died from his self. From the definition of a leader, we’ve mentioned that a leader should be able to motivate, direct and inspire others to reach their full potential. Let us examine the life of Mordecai; Mordecai having knowledge that they were in a captivity and someone with influence was needed for their deliverance, he never chose to become that man. He saw the potential of influence in the life of his cousin Esther so earlier and chose to secretly cultivate it. He was doing all these preparing Esther for the great assignment but she did not know exactly what he was doing in her life. Mordecai sacrificed his time and resources preparing Esther to be the queen but back in his mind he was seeing a deliver in her. She did not just see Esther as a girl that is potential to be a queen but she saw a deliverer in her. He then therefore decided to secretly develop the potential in Esther until it was to full potential. He took many years to work on her and to ensure that she becomes what she was supposed to. Probably Esther did not understand why Mordecai was so determined to prepare her for this position and yet she was just a slave girl. Once she had gained the stature and maturity to be a deliverer (gaining the influence or becoming the queen), Mordecai then told her the real assignment she was preparing her for. She surely did well but all these efforts and sacrifices were not by herself but by Mordecai a mere gatekeeper. Leadership will be fruitful and very fruitful if we can choose to be the Mordecai. Carefully identifying the potential in our subject and helping them to develop it until they reach their full potential. At their full potentials God will be glorified in us. Infact it is wickedness to see a kingdom potential in someone and fail to help them develop it when you are in the position to do so. This simply means that you’re selfish and carnal to the point that you don’t want people to do mighty things in the kingdom than you. Our responsibility is to cultivate the greatness of God in our subjects so that they may reach their full potential and also impact others.
  • 14. pg. 14 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 9.0 HANDLING CHAOS AND ISSUES IN THE BODY OF CHRIST Chaos and issues will never miss in the life on this earth but how we handle them dictates our tomorrow as a church. Issues will range from disunity or disagreements between individuals, misconduct of members, irresponsibility, sexual sin or just sin, improper response to directions, disrespect and many more. How we handle this determines the strength of the church thereafter. Earlier we said leadership must be out of love or within the boundaries of love and it is. But should we tolerate every disorderly practice in the church because we want to appear loving? No! this will mean we are not giving proper direction as it is supposed for a leader. But also remember there is a way we can handle the effected party in a way that will offend him or her, or look like condemning the person. This will cause this person to be lost more and more but we don’t want to lose anyone to the world, God wants them all in the kingdom. Let us learn from God in the book of revelation. God was angry about the conduct of men and the sins that they were deliberately engaging. His wrath came over the earth and punished them severely. People were killed by pledges, swords and many more as a result of their sins. Infact the a third of the population of the earth was killed. Funny enough the scripture does not hide from us that, each time the time of the wrath was complete the human population that remained continued to sin more and more. The wrath of God could not draw men back to God but drove them even more away. From the entire scripture, the only thing that has managed to draw men to God and preserve them retaining them in his presence is his love through Jesus Christ. It is only his love that managed this. He won us for him only by love. We must therefore communicate the truth in all situations to our subjects but in love. Truth not communicated in love is no longer truth but a condemnation. And love without truth is no longer love, this needs its name. Correct them, rebuke them as per the scripture but ensure it is in love. This means your language in solving cases and issues should be seasoned with the wisdom of God. The choice of your Words in addressing your subjects’ mattes a lot. Don’t just do it anyhow and justify yourself by making the common saying; but I’ve told them the truth and I don’t care how they will take it. No! there is a better way of doing everything. Let us emulate God as we serve.
  • 15. pg. 15 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 9.1 EMOTIONS OF A SHEPHERD A leader though is a man of God, he is a man. This is because even the great men are men and nothing can refute this. All men have emotions and feelings and they respond to things and situations accord to their feelings towards it. Things will happen when you shall find yourself angry and offended many times but is there away a representative of the authority of God should do? I once said; maturity is the ability to lose power to react to situations but to gain grace to respond to the same situations. Reacting to situations has a tendency of making situation worse since the affected parties will try to defend themselves or justify themselves. But we are mortal men operating in the physical body, what can we do? Since a leader is influence and has been given power to influence others, he or she must be careful to manage emotions well. One word uttered in anger by a leader in the presence of his subjects can cause a one-year havoc in the body of Christ. Therefore, before you speak anything in the presence of your subjects, examine well to check the consequences of your words. In conclusion let as define emotional indices of a leader; 1. Do not let your emotions rule you. 2. Do not speak or do anything in the presence of your subjects in anger. 3. Separate your social life from service- don’t allow peoples offence to limit your service to God. Learn to understand that if one man offends you it’s not the church or God that has offended you. 4. Whether you feel like serving God or not, feel like playing your role or not ensure you overcome the negative felling. 5. Stay positive.
  • 16. pg. 16 Written by Brother Alphayo Elias 10.0 MY CONFIDENCE There came a man sent from God his name was John … John 1:6-8 – there was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. God has chosen you to serve his people (not to be served) and he has made all provisions you need available. Your strength, wisdom, provision and direction are readily available. What you just need to do is to dive into his heart and draw all these things. Don’t be disrupted by many things, one and only one major question you should be asking yourself is; when the time to hand over to the next team or person will finally come, will I have done what God chose me to do? Or have just done what I wanted? Your confidence should be that you are sent from God. GOD BLESS YOU!
