Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
1. Welcome to the first content & traffic strategy for all Rockstars who want to
create a full time income from the Empower Network
This is an actual strategy I am using to get traffic, optins & sign ups to the Empower
Network opportunity. I would love to say to you that it is easy, but in truth, it isn't, nothing
worthwhile really ever is. Achieving massive results, usually takes hard work, focus and
consistency, and the Empower Network business is no exception, especially in the early
stages.
I have split this into two sections. Part Time and Full Time.
If you are full time in the Empower Network, then you are probably working 6/8 hrs a day
at present. If you are part time, you are probably working 3hrs a day.
If you are working less, I would ask you to look at what you want to gain as opposed to how
much time you are putting in. If you have the time and you're not using it, WHY not?
The first rule. If you want to earn a massive income, you need to be able to sell products
of high ticket value. Once you have purchased the higher end products, you are able to sell
them for up to 100% commissions.
The $25 & $100 products are monthly recurring, all others are a one off. You buy them
once and sell them over and over.
You need leverage in any business. I spent nearly two years selling low ticket items, it really
is not worth it. Think of how many $25 products you need to sell to make 5k a month (200)
as opposed to just 10 x $500 sales or 5 x $1000 sales. Top earners in this company
make 30/80 sales a month so it is unlikely anyone will make 200 new sales @
$25. And if you did, wouldn't you rather they were $100 monthlies and the occasional
$500, $1000 & $3000?
OK, let's get into the strategy for full timers
This document is the copyright property of Keith Everett 2013 (c)
2. Full Time.
Morning AM.
Listen to an inner circle audio for 1hr, or any training video from the Costa Rica Intensive,
15k formula, etc.
Take notes and jot down 3 to 5 key points the speakers are talking about. You are about to
re purpose the content like a DEMON and your followers will love you for it.
Step 1. Make a video to camera (web cam or detachable cam) explaining the 3/5 features as
benefits to the viewer. Benefits are what those features can do for the viewer. Always sell
the “Sizzle”, not the Sausage.
In the video itself, point people to the click able link below the video (if it's on YouTube)
which will be your Empower Network squeeze page link.
At this stage it's always best to have a simple to remember domain name and point it to
your Empower Network squeeze page URL. Mask it to so it carries across your nice domain
name.
Always open your video by saying something like, this is Keith Everett from simple
monthly profits.com. In this video I am going to show you (blah, blah, blah). Always use
good calls to action in your videos, either by pointing to the click able link below the video,
or by using “annotations” (screen overlays) on YouTube to put messages to the viewer on
the screen.
You have to tell the viewer what you want them to do.
OK, so now you have completed the video. You are now ready to upload it to YouTube and
get both natural traffic from YouTube itself, and also when you syndicate the video to other
networks later.
Time taken so far.
1 hr. Getting the information for the video. (through inner circle audios etc.)
1 to 2 hrs to make the video. Add the keywords, the description underneath, don't skimp
on this, you have up to 5000 characters, use as many as you can by using the main
keyword and related keywords. And think of a cool title with your main keyword in.
3. OK, so now what do we do?.
Step 2.
We go to IBO Toolbox and we make a Press Release. This is like a mini article. However,
use about 400 words where possible, if you don't have an IBO toolbox account get one here
and fill in your profile immediately.
You create the Press Release from the 3/5 points you used to create the Video
This website has 100,000 members, who are all interested in home business and business
opportunities, plus dozens of other subjects too. It is also gets up to 300,000 visitors daily.
It can be seen by thousands of people both within and outside the IBO toolbox. Create a
Press Release of 300/500 words. Add a link to your Empower squeeze page and release it
by publishing it.
That's all you need to do here. It will naturally go into the IBO news feed and can be seen
by many people. If you want plenty of comments, comment on other people's Press
Releases in IBO. It's all about adding value to other people, if you want followers, follow
more people.
4. Step 3.
Expand on the content you put into the press release, and create a Blog post for your
Empower Network blog from the Press Release.
Don't copy it exactly, use the techniques I've shown you (in the training site) to create a
blog post quickly (here's the video) Except this time, you are using your PR as the blueprint
for the blog post.
Add the video you created earlier to you Blog post, now you have a blog post with a video in
this is also known as a Vlog.
So, let's Recap.
1) We have made the video, we uploaded it to YouTube.
2) We have created a PR in IBO Toolbox
3) We then created a blog post on our Empower Blog.
Step 4. Aweber. This is your MONEY maker. The LIST!. You need grab it here.your your
own list that you can email daily, if you haven't already got Aweber, grab it here.
Now once you have published your blog post, send an email to your list telling them. You
send them some “teaser” copy in the email, warming them up to go and read the “rest of
the story”.. give them the link to your blog post.
So now we have your original content re purposed into 4 pieces of content.
I will now show you how to get the word out so your content is seen. The more traffic you
get, the more hits you get on your content.
This will lead to more opt ins and should eventually lead to sales..
Disclaimer: There are no guarantees that you will earn anything at all. It is purely down
to the amount of effort you put in, as with all things in life, if you want great results – great
effort is required.
5. TRAFFIC...
It's all a bit pointless creating this wonderful content if just a handful of people stumble
across it each day.
Now with the blog posts, just because they are now sitting on a good Alexa ranked blog, it
doesn't mean you will get lots of traffic. At least not in the early stages, you may well get
plenty of “natural” traffic in a few months down the line if you have SEO'd your blog posts
well.
But what about now?.. It's NOW that we really need the traffic, as it's NOW that you want
the SALES.. Right?
OK, so we need to give our content a traffic boost. We need to get lots of short term traffic
which will also help our overall rankings to get long term traffic.
So here's what we do. Decide on your advertising budget. If you do not have one, then use
the FREE traffic methods as mentioned in our training site
Post regularly to your Facebook personal wall and to up to 100 Facebook groups. If you use
Hootsuite to post automatically to 25 groups at a time, this should not take much time at
all, however if you do this manually, this will take you quite a while, so it is best to go to
Hootsuite and pay the $9.99PM for the pro version
When you post on your personal facebook wall you could add your video first, say in the
morning, then add your Press Release in the afternoon and your blog post in the evening.
Always be adding content to facebook, 3 times a day if you can to cover all the time zones.
Syndication
Syndicate your content through OnlyWire and Tribe Pro, These both have free accounts
and paid accounts, but if you want to get a serious amount of people to view your content
you will need a paid account on both.
The Only wire account costs $12 per month for 1000 submissions (1000 shares per month
to one social network), the more shares you need the higher the cost of the Only Wire
account.
6. With Tribe Pro, you need the Plus account, which costs $39.97 PM, however you get the
choice to be auto syndicated with others, which means you can add your content and let
others auto syndicate you through their social accounts (see the training videos on the
Tribe Pro site).
Solo Ads
Some people have had great success with these. My own personal experience of these has
been mixed. Here's why.
I do believe that there is a lot of luck involved with Solo Ads. If you throw enough money at
them and you are consistent with the same recommended seller then I think you will get
some sort of success with them. At least as far as opt ins go.
Sales cannot be guaranteed (nor opt ins).
I have found the Simple2Advertise platform the most useful. There is a $37 monthly
charge regardless of whether you advertise or not but it is a complete marketing platform
too.
It has superior capture pages, it has a Facebook timeline tool, that I’ve seen others charge
$27 a month for.
It has banners too. For graphics it would be hard to beat ,so I am happy to use it month
after month. I am also an affiliate, the 30% commission helps, and you can help your
personal teams by recommending it.
You can participate in Ad Coops, sampling larger Solo Ad campaigns by buying a portion of
clicks for as low as $25, so if you are struggling for opt ins, you might want to try
Simple2Advertise, who knows, you might get sales from it.
Summary – Full Time.
1) Spend 1 Hr a Day listening to Audio or Video trainings
2) Spend 1 to 2 hrs a day creating the video
3) Spend 45 minutes to one hour creating the Press Release
4) Spend 1 hr or less on the blog post. (You already have most of the script for this in
your PR).
5) Spend 2/3 Hrs a day getting traffic to the content
So what about people doing this Part Time?. My recommended strategy for you is
on the next page.
7. Part Time
This will probably apply to most of the Empower Network Rockstars team at present. If
you can spend 3hrs a day you will be well on your way. Maybe you want to give up your job
at some stage, or maybe you love your job, but need extra money.
Here are my recommendations for Part Time.
3 hrs per day, increase the time invested on your day's off where possibly. Get your
spouse on your side by spending quality time with them and point out to them that for
things to change, you are going to have to change.
Step 1. Spend 1hr per day on Education. Learn from the products, learn from the training
site, learn from the Facebook group.
Step 2. Create either a blog post or a video every day from the information you are
learning. If you are blogging about non IM related subjects, use some of your tine for
research on the Internet to access the best material to use for your subject.
Don't skip on the education or motivation, this is important.
Time 1Hr.
Spend the last hour driving traffic to your content. Send to 100 groups via Hootsuite, (25
groups at a time). Syndicate some content through Tribe Pro
Post to your Facebook timeline every day.
There you have it. This is a sound strategy to create hits, opt ins and hopefully sign ups for
your Empower Network.
Look out for another strategy soon.
