September is the perfect time of the year to
begin the age‐old ritual of schlepping through
your cold‐weather wardrobe, picking off the
mothballs and parting ways with outdated
items to make room for new additions.

throwing out that 80's motorcycle jacket

Fashion Week events and make sure you're
not tossing out goods that may be coming

MN Fall Fashion Week (Sept. 21‐27 with kick‐off shows starting this weekend) will be jam‐
packed with more than 25 events with unique tastes, styles and themes ‐ all dedicated to the
local fashion design community. To help you weed through the options, consider attending
these wardrobe‐inspiring events:

2. ENVISION
Date/Time: Fri., Sept. 18, 8:00 p.m. ‐
Midnight
Location: The Graves 601, 601 1st Avenue
North in downtown Minneapolis
Price: $20 in advance; $25 at the door (seats
are limited). Tickets available at Cliché.
Atmosphere: A big budget, high fashion
experience
The Deets: If you're only able to hit up one
event during fashion week and are looking for
something that rivals the production quality
of a New York City fashion show, then look no
further than ENVISION: Fall 2009.

Ignite Models Inc., Designer: Amanda Christine
Produced by Ignite Models Inc., ENVISION is slated to be one of the biggest fashion events of
the season with over 50 models, 20 stylists and 15 local designers pooling creative resources
to put on an elite, big‐budget production complete with high‐fashion twists. A portion of the
evening's proceeds will benefit The Young Survival Coalition, a breast cancer research fund.
Doors open at 8:00pm, with a silent auction (items include clothing and accessories donated
by local designers) and an interactive hair show hosted by Nino Altobelli. The runway show,
split into two segments, gets rolling around 10:00 pm, when judges will decide which designer
wins a professional photoshoot and cash prize for their designs (Full disclosure: City Pages is

runway).

Kjurek Couture Exclusively Fall Runway Show

3. Date/Time: Fri., Sept. 25, 8 p.m. ‐ 11 p.m.
Location: W Hotel ‐ The Foshay, 821 Marquette Avenue in downtown Minneapolis
Price: $20. Tickets available at the door and at Cliché.
Atmosphere: A fully seated, traditional runway show
The Deets: Local designer Kimberly Jurek debuts her fall line of bohemian‐feminine
silhouettes in rich fabrics of silk, velvet, lace, and woven cottons to a seated audience of
buyers, store owners, stylists and fashion veterans. Her inspiration for the fall color palette
borrows from Ma Nature's greatest hues of chocolate, slate, mint, orange poppy, plum, and
cream. Jurek's items are eco‐friendly, beautifully tailored, easy to wear (and easy to purchase
at local boutiques) and manufactured in Minneapolis.

SCENEASOTA
Date/Time: Saturday, September 26, 2009
Location: Ignite Models Space, Brin Building:
600 Washington Ave N. Suite 101
Minneapolis, MN 55401

Atmosphere: A raw fashion party
The Deets: The Minnesota‐grown fashion
show born out of a group of friend's love for
local designers, music and art is gearing up to
knock last year's inaugural event out of the
park.

4. down, sip cocktails with designers and models and get down with eclectic talent from the
Twin Cities art scene. The reception starts at 7:00 p.m. with the runway show beginning

COUTURE NOIR
Date/Time: Wednesday, September 23, 2009
Location: Varsity Theater

Atmosphere: A dark forray into local fashion
The Deets: Mackenzie LaBine is one of
Minneapolis' most noted hair stylists and one
of its most experimental designers. Her last
big production was in 2006 with October's
Electro Couture Culture at First
Emily Utne
Designers: Elizabeth Chesney & Melanie Ree
Avenue and was an explosion of structured, futuristic clothing with a daring gothic edge. This
year's show goes darker into the abyss, and we can't wait to see what LaBine has been
working on.
