The document discusses best practices for writing effective error messages in software applications. It recommends that error messages should briefly explain the problem, provide a solution, use clear language, and give constructive advice without scaring or blaming users. Developers are advised to design error handling carefully, test messages with users, and work with other teams to address errors properly.
This document discusses speech application tuning, which is the process of analyzing recorded caller interactions to identify areas for improving speech recognition accuracy and the caller experience. It involves transcribing utterances and categorizing them as correct or incorrect recognitions. Focus areas are identified, such as points where callers exceed maximum tries or opt out. Recommendations are made and implemented, such as adjusting prompts, grammars, or confidence thresholds. Tuning is an ongoing process to adapt the system to callers and ensure success. Guidelines recommend addressing low-hanging fruit through objective, methodical testing of targeted changes.

The document discusses guidelines for writing effective error messages, including focusing on the user's problem rather than the technical error, avoiding jargon, using an appropriate tone, not blaming the user, providing explanations and solutions, and measuring success through reduced support reports and message scoring. It also covers topics like preventing errors, conveying the right tone, avoiding doomsday phrases or promises, being complete, and making translation easier.

Collaboration in a flat world allows companies to innovate and create value through global partnerships and interactions. There are three steps to effective collaboration: 1) connecting teams to share information and make decisions, 2) streamlining processes through tools like project management, and 3) optimizing transactional processes using ERP and CRM systems. Microsoft technologies like Office 365 provide pervasive collaboration capabilities that can be used across an organization's value chain in areas like sourcing, R&D, operations, customer service, sales, and product delivery. Case studies demonstrate how collaboration tools have improved productivity, sped processes, and increased profits for many companies.

In this presentation André Agostinho e Cassio Silva covers the importance in dealing with technical debt in software engineering showing the real impacts, daily approaches and best practices for mitigations
The document discusses the risks associated with a project to develop a web application for a furniture company. It identifies several risks such as issues with new technology, insufficient development time, and technical or quality problems. Mitigation strategies are proposed for the two major risks of data security issues related to new cloud technology and the development time possibly being insufficient.
Compaq KM Strategy Presentation from 2000Stan Garfield
The document discusses a proposal for a knowledge management strategy at Compaq. It begins with an overview of knowledge management and an analysis of Compaq's current state, which finds positive initiatives but also barriers like too many systems, information overload, and a lack of rewards for sharing knowledge. It then recommends leveraging existing strong initiatives, building a common structure from the best ones, and creating a Compaq Knowledge Management Program to establish people, processes, and technologies on an enterprise-wide level. This would address current problems like the lack of communities of practice, difficulty finding experts, and lack of integration among tools and information sources.

Here are the key steps in Kavyos' IT staffing recruiting process:
1. Continuous recruiting - They actively search online and in-person to find both candidates actively looking for work and those open to new opportunities.
2. Screening interviews - An initial phone screen evaluates technical skills and determines if a candidate is a potential fit.
3. Technical assessments - Candidates take technical tests to objectively evaluate their skills and qualifications.
4. In-person interviews - Qualified candidates meet with the hiring manager to assess cultural fit and soft skills through conversation.
5. Reference and background checks - References are contacted and background checks performed on final candidates before making an offer.

Engaging specialist testing partners who were focused on their industry and had deep domain expertise provided significant benefits to two organizations. In the first case, a financial services company saw faster knowledge transfer, 50% reduction in defects and associated costs, and cost savings of up to 74% from offshore work. The second case saw a cards software maker avoid penalties, reduce defects to under 5%, and realize 88% offshore work along with 50% savings on regression costs over time through continuous improvement initiatives. Both cases showed that collaborating with a dedicated and experienced testing partner optimized management decisions around software testing.

2010 10 19 the lean startup workshop for i_gap irelandEric Ries
The document discusses the Lean Startup methodology for building startups under conditions of extreme uncertainty. It advocates for an experimental, customer-focused approach where the minimum viable product is used to test hypotheses and gather customer feedback through rapid iteration. Key techniques include continuous deployment, rapid A/B testing, and using the five whys method to identify the root causes of problems. The goal is to minimize the time to validate learning about customers through frequent releases and measurement.
Pin the tail on the metric v01 2016 octSteven Martin
This presentation takes a different approach to metrics. Instead of listing the Top 10 field-tested metrics, we first talk about goals as prerequisites for metrics. Next, we discuss characteristics of good and bad metrics. We end with walking through an activity called “Pin the Tail on the Metric,” a technique to facilitate the critical thinking needed to determine what types of metrics can help your organization discuss trade-offs, options, and ultimately make better forward-looking decisions.

1) Complex software is everywhere and software development is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive.
2) There are often large gaps in software development processes which creates risks like inconsistent processes, lack of productivity reporting, and unpredictable development.
3) Visual Studio 2012 aims to address issues in software development through features like integrated testing tools, storyboarding for early feedback, load testing, and monitoring of applications in production.
The document discusses techniques for building startups using a lean startup methodology. It advocates for building minimum viable products and rapidly iterating based on customer feedback. Key principles include continuous deployment of code, conducting split tests to validate hypotheses, and using metrics to measure progress and make decisions. The goal is to minimize the time to learn what customers want through short development cycles and frequent releases.

Introduction
Cummins is a global engine manufacturer that also designs and manufactures turbochargers for engine applications. Cummins Turbocharger is the market leader in medium and heavy-duty car applications worldwide.
The Process and Relevant Data Comment by Seon A Levius: Since you are using “Cummins” in this section, you need to pinpoint some process problem with data issues for optimization. The optimization or improvement can be for both the process and technology.
Prototype - A Model of the Construction Process: The organization's prototyping process is ineffective and results in a lengthier lead time in comparison to client needs. According to data from the last six months, the average lead time for proto-sample building is approaching 12 days, rather than the five days requested by the customer.
Process Improvement Methods Comment by Seon A Levius: In this section you will basically explain how you will improve the process problem you identified above. This is basically the articulation of your solution (which must for this case include technology optimization). Also, how will you evaluate it.
You mentioned Six Sigma as the tool to enhance the process. But that is not what we want here. Six Sigma can be the tool you used to evaluate the proposed solution to the problem you identified.
So, in this sense, I didn’t see any articulation about how you will evaluate your improvements to ensure, they are efficient and effective.
For example, Six Sigma can be used as the process improvement method. The Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) sub-methodology within Six Sigma can be helpful in defining the details of the future state process and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that the future state process should be able to meet.
Other methods in our reading this week that can be explored includes PDCA (Plan Do Check Act).
Six Sigma is a technique for process improvement. Six sigma methodology is being designed for process improvement and the implementation of six sigma tools in order to correctly assess the process and achieve improvement (Thomas, et al., 2017)
