Emergency evacuation decisions Emergency evacuation is the immediate and urgent movement of people away from the threat or actual occurrence of a hazard. In a business or place of work it can be defined as an unforeseen situation that threatens people (employees, clients and public) it disrupts the business operations (Jones, 1991). Emergency evacuation plan should have an alert system that can use to make immediate and urgent awareness to all the people in the work place. The alarm should be distinct and able to be recognized by all the staff as a sign for evacuation. The communication systems for evacuation can include public address system, portable radio unit among other devices preferred by the firm.in developing policies and procedures of evacuation it is essential to consider conditions, under which evacuation is necessary, a well-defined chain of command of the people who will be given the task of coordinating the process (Chen, 1997). control panel ease-of-use was increased and ultimately helped reduce the number of crashes that
had, until then, been attribute to pilot error.
The term ergonomics was coined – from the Greek roots (ergon and nomos) – at a 1949 meeting
of world-renowned physiologists and psychologists. Later in 1949, this same body of scientists
and like-minded colleagues formed the Ergonomics Research Society, or ERS, which became the
first such professional body in the world. The group continued to evolve with the changing
workplace landscape and begin to incorporate other factors such as workplace layout, light, heat,
noise – more physical aspects. The organization is now known as the Institute of Ergonomics and
Human Factors (IEHF) and continues to study the benefits and factors that effect people both
inside and outside of the workplace.
To me, this is a less ergonomically correct society. Human working has become stressed and
even more than stressed. All this is due to development in technology which is leading to the

the attainment of organizational goals. The broad objective of the study is to examine the level of relationship
between safety management system and organizational performance of two plastic industries in Awka
metropolis. Three research questions and hypotheses were formulated in line with the specific objectives. The
study is anchored on Heinrich Theory. In pursuance of the objective of the study, the descriptive survey design
was adopted. The study worked with the population of eighty. Pilot study was conducted using a test retest
method to establish the reliability of the research instrument. The validity of the instrument was also tested. Chi
square was used for data analysis and Z test was also used to test the Chi square at 0.05 level of significance.
The findings revealed that safety management has a positive influence on firm’s profitability, that there is a
relationship between safety management and customer satisfaction, that safety management has influence on
employee commitment and that safety management reduces cost for organization. The study recommends that
Safety should therefore be afforded the highest priority, taking precedence over commercial, operational,
environmental or social pressures, in that staff must be given responsibility for their own actions, and managers
held responsible for the safety performance of their organisations.

Disasters are one of the most important challenges which must be considered by every management system. Higher education centers have high disaster risk because of their risk factors (existence of historical and scientific documents and resources and expensive laboratory equipment in these centers emphasizes the importance of
disaster management). Moreover, the existence of young volunteers of human resources in universities urges the
necessity of making these people familiar with disaster management rules and responses in emergency conditions. Creating appropriate tools for disaster management assessment makes it correct and precise in higher education systems using the presented conceptual model. The present model was planned so as to cover three phases which exist before, during, and after disaster. Studies were performed in one of the largest higher education centers in Tehran: Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University Campus. Results showed high-risk disasters in these centers
which must be taken into consideration continuously. The objective of this study was to create appropriate patterns of
disaster risk management in these centers.

risks. As a result, organizations should utilize the various risk assessment and
management tools that are available. When managing risk, the focus should be
on the elimination of risk, the reduction of risk, and the mitigation of risk. There
are three factors that influence risk management: vulnerability, probability, and
criticality. All three factors are equally important, and once assessed, resources
should be allocated so that the maximum amount of risk is reduced.
Conducting a risk assessment is a very detailed procedure which requires
security managers to consider several factors such as the human, physical and
information assets at risk, the probability or of loss, the frequency of loss, the

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss the
generational gaps that are found in the workplace
today. With multiple generations working together,
and the oldest generation having to work longer and
retire later, generational changes are occurring in the
workplace and for management. There is a lack of
communication and understanding between the
different generations caused through differing values
and goals. Younger generations are also entering
different fields than those that were popular for older
generations. There is a serious new problem in the
workplace, and it has nothing to do with downsizing,
global competition, pointy-haired bosses, stress or
greed. Instead, it is the problem of distinct
generations — the Veterans, the Baby Boomers, Gen
X and Gen Y — working together and often colliding
as their paths cross.
Individuals with different values, different ideas,
different ways of getting things done and different
ways of communicating in the workplace have always
existed. So, why is this becoming a problem now? At
work, generation differences can affect everything
including recruiting, building teams, dealing with
change, motivating, managing, and maintaining and
increasing productivity All of these ideas are
explored, discussed, and evaluated, through looking
at current research on the topic and case studies that
have been conducted not only in the United States but
around the world.

Throughout the years, as the population has continued to
both grow and age, it has caused generational changes to
take place in the various aspects of life. With the changes in
the demographics of the world’s population, there have also
been changes in how each group thinks and what they

After completing the assessment, my Signature Theme Report produced the following results: Communication, Relator, Individualization, Consistency, and Strategic. When I first saw the themes presented, I was a little skeptical at first but after reading the detailed descriptions I felt like it made a lot of sense and mirrored a lot of what I had already thought about myself.
A core value that I would like to continue to strengthen would be the value of acceptance. One of my top five themes was relator which explained that I have a comfortability with gravitating towards people I already know and building relationships from there. I don’t have issues with making new relationships, but I can see that sometimes I close myself off initially to embracing new ones. With acceptance, you have to understand that there are some situations you can control and some that you can’t but embracing the latter can lead to new experiences that could be beneficial (Riley, 2021). Another core value that I would like to improve upon would be calmness. This fits in well with my theme of consistency. While I am a firm believer of things being fair and consistent, I can get easily upset when things don’t balance out like they are expected to. I know that working on being calm in tense situations will help me adapt easier when things don’t always work out as they should.
One of the strengths that I would like to embrace fully and continue to improve upon is communication. It was no surprise to me that communication was at the top of my list for my themes. When I am in a position of leadership at work, I make it a priority to keep my staff updated on everything that is going on for that night and it is something I expect from my charge nurse when I am working the floor also. A communicator is only effective when they are aware of their style of communicating and how others perceive or respond to it (Marshall & Broome, 2021). As a communicator I know that I can always work on how I communicate non-verbally and with body language especially. The other strength that I would like to continue to work on is of being strategic. The report explained that the strategic theme fit me because I am able to sort through the clutter and find the best route when I am trying to accomplish something. I really believe this about myself because when I have a task I need to accomplish, whether I am in a leader position or not, I will break everything down and reorganize it to make sure I have come up with the best solution. I feel like the best way to do something is the way that makes it concise and without a lot of excess getting in the way.
A characteristic of mine that I would like to strengthen would be that of instinct. My theme of individualization points out that I have an instinct about others and how they work and function. I have always felt that I easily read people and can get a sense of who they truly are and for example in the workplace how they are as a staff member. S.

NARRATOR: Advocacy and change are closely intertwined. In this video
program, Dr. Judy Lewis defines advocacy and explains the roles of counselors
advocating for change. Dr. Lewis also describes barriers counselors may face as
they advocate for change, and how to overcome these barriers.
DR. JUDY LEWIS: At its most basic, advocacy is simply the act of speaking up
on behalf of someone else-- maybe speaking up for someone who is voiceless or
powerless.
When it comes to the counseling profession, advocacy is particularly important
for two reasons. One is that part of our process of working with clients is to help
them gain the strength and the skills so they can advocate on their own behalf.
The other part of it is that once we realize that the client might not have the
power to be able to speak up on his or her own behalf, sometimes we may have
to be the ones that speak up on behalf of the clients.
This happens especially when we see a lot of different clients all having similar
problems, and we realize that there is a systemic reason for it. There is
something in the community environment that is standing between these clients
and what they need.
So as counselors, when we're oriented toward advocacy, what we are doing is
changing the lens through which we see the client. Instead of looking through a
microscope at the individual client, we're looking through a wide-angle lens. So
that we're seeing the context of what's happening in the client's life.
When counselors carry out advocacy, they do this at several different levels. One
level is the level of working with the individual client or family. When you're
working with an individual client, you have two alternatives. One is to work in an
empowering way with the individual so that he or she learns to advocate for
himself or herself.
The other possibility-- when that doesn't provide all the answers-- the other
possibility is to do advocacy on behalf of that individual. When we're working with
the clients in an empowering way, what we're helping them see is the degree to
which some of the problems that they're having may not be totally their fault.
When people start feeling as though they're so much at fault, sometimes they just
get stuck and can't seem to move beyond their current situation. If they can begin
to see for themselves what some of the barriers are that are preventing them
from getting to where they want to go, and where sometimes they're not

completely at fault-- they're not completely guilty-- we can start to teach them

1) How does University of California define “diversity?”
A: The academic senate adopted in 2009 the following broad definition of diversity:
Diversity - defining features of California past, present and future - refers to a variety of
personal experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and
circumstance. Such differences include race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language,
abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, geographic region and more.
2) Why does UC Irvine expect a diversity statement from applicants for faculty positions?
A: UC Irvine’s commitment to inclusive excellence is integral to our ascendancy among globally
preeminent universities. It provides applicants with an opportunity to discuss how their past or
future contributions will advance this enduring campus commitment. For more information,
please see the Provost’s memo on Inclusive Excellence.
3) Is the diversity statement consistent with University of California policy?
A: Yes. APM 210.1-d, which governs appointment, appraisal and promotion, recommends that
faculty be both encouraged and rewarded for activity that promotes inclusive excellence:
“The University of California is committed to excellence and equity in every facet of its mission.
Teaching, research, professional and public service contributions that promote diversity and
equal opportunity are to be encouraged and given recognition in the evaluation of the
candidate's qualifications. These contributions to diversity and equal opportunity can take
a variety of forms including efforts to advance equitable access to education, public
service that addresses the needs of California's diverse population, or research in a
scholar's area of expertise that highlights inequities.”

A: Per Provost Gillman’s memo of June 2014, all ads for faculty positions will include the following

to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and

It may also causes physical or environmental damages. They can be natural or manmade caused. The hazard can be fires, chemical spills, tornadoes, hurricanes, explosions among others. When a leader is making an emergency evacuation he should do that basing on the ethics of the job and the culture of the people this will help in making for the environment and development of a safety corporate culture (Mason, 2004). This paper focuses on the importance of emergency evacuation based on the ethical decision making for the environment and the development of a safety corporate culture. Ethics plays a significant role to ensure the culture and respect of human rights is upheld by the employer. It for instance makes sure that the needs and rights of the employers are included during drafting the company employee’s rules. Emergency evacuation helps to make ensure the safety of the staff by avoiding injuries and damages by making environment healthy and free to work (Kono, 1990). With that it helps to a culture of safety for the people in the company. When setting up an emergency evacuation plan the leader or the person in charge is advisable to have a method for reporting the incident, it must have the evacuation policies and procedures and it should have escape procedure and route assignments. This will help the company to advocate for the culture of safety first. Emergency evacuation plan should have an alert system that can use to make immediate and urgent awareness to all the people in the work place. The alarm should be distinct and able to be
- 2. recognized by all the staff as a sign for evacuation. The communication systems for evacuation can include public address system, portable radio unit among other devices preferred by the firm.in developing policies and procedures of evacuation it is essential to consider conditions, under which evacuation is necessary, a well-defined chain of command of the people who will be given the task of coordinating the process (Chen, 1997). Based on ethics the procedures should be able to outline how the disabled and people who do not the language spoken by the most employee will be helped during that time. This enhances the development of a safety and an occupational healthy environment. During evacuation, the system for accounting of each person is developed he company by considering the staff’s needs for transportation community wide range evacuations. Also during the process the specific routes and exits to be used are clearly and publicly poste d to help the members to avoid confusions. In the case of a fire, an immediate evacuation to another area that was initially determined away from the facility is the best method to protect employees and ensuring their safety (Hale, 1998). While evacuating the staff is not the best response to an emergency such as a toxic gas release at a facility across town from your business. Making and executing the right evacuation plans for the different hazards is an important way to ensure the company embraces the culture of safety first and protection of the people. Emergency evacuation helps in making the decision of choosing the strategic location for the business and development of a healthy working environment. Most buildings are vulnerable to the natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods. The type of construction used in the building plays a big role in determining the extent of damage made. Therefore, the management should select building that will reduce vulnerability to ensure it develops the culture and ethics of safety for workers. Conclusion Employers’ should ensure they factor in the ethics of the

To develop safety first culture in the firm, emergency evacuation plays a big role by ensuring the staff is protected from damages and injuries. Understanding conversation ethics and civility helps employees to increase the effectiveness of my interpersonal communication skills. This is mainly through assisting their identity during a situation which involves politeness, considerate or understanding. Emergency evacuation helps to develop message by relying on their personal understanding of what is right and how they can say something based upon their understanding of what is appropriate and how to say something without offending, hurting or breaking up personal relationships with other people.
