NPCA and Jamaica Bay Advocates met with Congressman
Hakeem Jeffries on Monday, July 13 to reiterate the
importance of three projects that can transform Jamaica
Bay into a world class waterfront urban national park.
At the meeting, advocates talked about bringing back public
ferry service to the Rockaway Peninsula and
completing & expanding the Jamaica Bay Greenway to
provide residents and tourists an opportunity to explore the
hidden gem that is Jamaica Bay. We also highlighted the
need to restore West Pond habitat at the Jamaica Bay
Wildlife Refuge and the historic Bathhouse infrastructure
at Jacob Riis Park, both of which were destroyed by Sandy
and remain closed 3 years later.
Rep. Jeffries was receptive to our effort in building
advocates for Jamaica Bay and wanted to learn more about
specific ways he can funnel federal money into these three
capital projects in the future.
