Between 27th July and 12th August 2012 London is hosting the Olympic Games. After
1908 and 1948, it is the third time that London is the host of this international sports
event. Athletes from more than 200 countries try to win Olympic medals in 302 events
such as swimming, canoeing, rowing, basketball, handball, volleyball, football, cycling,
boxing, fencing, table tennis, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, triathlon, archery,
athletics… The only new discipline this year is women’s boxing.

However, not all of these events will take place in London. The football tournament, for
example, will be at different stadiums around the UK and the sailing events will take
place on the Isle of Portland.

The total costs for the London Olympics are around 10 billion pounds (=12 billion euros)
 and
a tickets cost between £20 and £2000 pounds!
