Ralph Ellison was an American writer born in 1914 and died in 1994. He received several prestigious awards and fellowships including the National Medal of Arts. Ellison is best known for his novel "Invisible Man" published in 1952 about a young African American man struggling with issues of identity and individuality in the modern world.
