In the 1960s, 9 out of 10 products were made in America, but today over half of products are imported. Most American-made products contain components from Mexico due to NAFTA integrating supply chains across North America. NAFTA has solidified Mexico's economic future as the US's top two export partners are now Canada and Mexico, purchasing hundreds of billions in American goods annually, especially machinery, vehicles, and electrical machinery.

3. The NAFTA countries (Canada and Mexico),
were the top two purchasers of U.S. exports in
2013. (Canada $300.3 billion and Mexico
$226.2 billion).
The top export categories in 2013 were:
Machinery ($83.8 billion), Vehicles (parts)
($73.3 billion), Electrical Machinery ($63.4
billion), Mineral Fuel and Oil ($47.7 billion),
and Plastic ($28.3 billion).
