CONCEPT OF ELECTRIC FIELD
SS1PHY
An electric field is a region or space
where a charge body experiences an
electric force.
It has both magnitude & direction & so
it is a vector quantity.
It is represented by electric lines of
force.
 Direction of electric field at any point is
given by the direction of the force acting
on a small positive charge placed at that
TYPES OF ELECTRIC FIELDS
SS1PHYS
There are two types of electric filed namely;
o UNIFORM FIELD: The field lines are straight,
parallel & evenly spaced.
(PUT THE DIAGRAM HERE)
o VARIABLE FIELD: The field lines are curve and
the direction of the field varies from one point to
another which is tangential to the lines at any point.

ELECTRIC LINE OF FORCES
A The path which an isolated small
positive charge would follow when
placed in a field is called electric line of
force.
It is an imaginary line drawn in an
electric field.
It direction gives the direction of the
electric field at any point.
Lines of force are also called
PATTERNS OF ELECTRIC FIELD
SS1PHYS
There are sIX patterns of electric field.
(PUT FOUR PATTERNS HERE)
PATTERNS OF ELECTRIC FIELD
SS1PHYS
(PUT TWO PATTERNS HERE)
They are imaginary lines
They start only from a positive charge &
end only on a negative charge.
They repel each other
Lines of force in a uniform field are
straight parallel & evenly spaced.
 They indicate the direction of the field.
 They are continuous in any region with
free charges.
 The closer the lines the stronger the
PROPERTIES OF FIELD LINE
CURRENT ELECTRICITY
A path provided for the flow of
electric current. Basically it consists of;
 A cell/Battery ( source of energy)
 A conductor
 A load ( a bulb or a resistor)
 A key or switch
There are three types of electric circuit
namely;
 Closed Circuit
 Open Circuit

electric symbols here.
SYMBOLS USED IN ELECTRIC FIELD
A fuse is a short length of wire of low
current low melting point, connecting to the
live wire of an electric circuit so that when
a current above a certain level flows in the
circuit, the heat developed in the fused
wire, melts it & thus cut the fuse wire,
thereby breaking (opening) circuit &
current no longer flows to the appliance
that the circuit is delivering current to.
It is a safety device for electrical
FUSE
