During 2014, ILC-UK, supported by specialist insurance company, Partnership Assurance Group plc (Partnership), is undertaking a series of events to explore the relationship between our changing demography and public policy.
The second event in the series will explore how much we really know about life expectancy at the highest ages. How many of us are living to 90 and beyond? Why have estimates of life expectancy required revision? What does this tell us about increasing longevity? And what does this trend mean for public policy and long-term population planning?
This 15-minute lesson aims to enhance athlete performance through imagery exercises recalling past successes. The rationale is that imagery improves self-confidence, motivation, attention and anxiety management, and is used more by successful athletes. Participants will individually describe a best performance, then guide through visualizing it using senses to relive positive emotions and techniques. They will also visualize a poor performance to gain self-awareness. Debriefing discusses feelings and benefits of using imagery before competition. Studies show imagery helps top athletes enhance performance.

The student will be able to solve systems of equations using elimination with addition and subtraction. There are 5 steps to solving a system by elimination: 1) put the equations in standard form, 2) determine which variable to eliminate, 3) add or subtract the equations to eliminate the variable, 4) plug back into one equation to find the other variable, and 5) check the solution by substituting into both original equations. Two examples are provided to demonstrate the process.

Maximising the potential of the UK's ageing population. Lessons from Asia and...ILC- UK
On Thursday, 21st April 2016 the International Longevity Centre and the Global Aging Institute hosted a roundtable discussion with European Commissioners on maximising the potential of Europe's ageing population in reference to Asian best practice, supported by Prudential Plc.
The discussion focused on how different Asian countries address the demographic challenge posed by an ageing society, and how they respond to the social mood relating to work and retirement; participants also considered how healthcare can meet the challenges posed by rapidly ageing societies across Europe.
This document provides examples of using the discriminant of a quadratic equation to determine the number of solutions. It defines the discriminant as b^2 - 4ac in the quadratic formula ax^2 + bx + c = 0. Several examples show calculating the discriminant of example equations and using whether it is positive, zero, or negative to determine if there are two, one, or no real solutions. The last example is a word problem about the height of a water fountain that is solved using the discriminant to find where the fountain reaches a certain height.
The document provides examples of completing the square to transform quadratic expressions into perfect square trinomials and to solve quadratic equations. It demonstrates finding the value of c to make an expression of the form x^2 + bx + c a perfect square trinomial by adding the square of half the coefficient of x. It also shows solving quadratic equations by completing the square, including writing the expression as the square of a binomial and taking square roots. Examples involve finding widths, solving multi-step word problems, and checking solutions graphically.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.

Maximising the potential of the UK's ageing population. Lessons from Asia and...ILC- UK
On Wednesday, 20th April 2016, the International Longevity Centre - UK and the Global Aging Institute hosted a roundtable discussion in the House of Lords on how the UK can maximise the potential of its ageing population, supported by Prudential Plc.
The discussion focused on a range of topics emerging from the Global Aging Institute's research in East Asia, including how different Asian countries address productivity challenges, changing dependency ratios, gender disparities and the changing nature of intergenerational dependence.
These topics were also considered in relation to ageing societies across Europe, at a roundtable discussion with European Commissioners held in Brussels on Thursday, 21st April 2016.
This document provides an overview of angel capital and investment. It begins by defining angels investors as high-net-worth individuals, often entrepreneurs, who invest their own money in seed-stage companies. It then discusses angel groups and networks, the stages of investment, common deal structures, valuation methods, and exit strategies. The document also outlines how angel capital fits within the broader early-stage financing ecosystem and provides context on trends in angel investing, including how angels are filling gaps left by retreating venture capital due to the economic crisis.
There are more women than men over age 65 in the US, and women make up 71% of those over 85. Women face greater risks of poverty in old age due to longer lifespans and unique financial challenges. Many women, even those with high earnings, worry that they will not have enough money saved to retire or cover health costs, and fear becoming a financial burden on their families later in life.

The document provides tips and information from Empower Software Solutions for having a stress-free year-end payroll process. It recommends that employers verify employee name, SSN, and address information, as well as do the same for independent contractors. It also suggests verifying SSN changes with the Social Security Administration and deadlines with third-party providers. The document promotes Empower Software's tax compliance software and outsourcing services.
The document lists 4 items: Cristian David Jimenez Grijalba, David Monroy, T-Bone, and Hershey Milk Shake. It appears to be a list of names and food/drink items but provides no other context around them.
An interactive system called Canovaccio helps people organize and participate in cultural events in public spaces in Venice. Users can demonstrate appreciation for events by using their smartphone like a hat. To join the Canovaccio club, users must throw a virtual ring into the Lagoon from San Marco Square. Members receive a personalized "Murrina" on their profile that grows more detailed based on their activities and feedback. Members can leave the club by passing their Murrina to another user via Bluetooth. New members are voted into the club as current members vote with virtual white or black balls on their smartphones.
21st century students must be critical thinkers who raise questions, gather information, and think openly to solve complex problems collaboratively. They must also be quick problem solvers, technological experts, self-efficient, flexible and adaptable, curious about the world, globally aware as events are interconnected, and environmentally conscious in order to succeed.
