During the fifty years of its existence, the Faculty of Economics in Osijek, as one of the key components of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek,
has gained a significant reputation in the academic community as a modern institution open to society; the Faculty interested in co-operation and

Today's faculty must, of course, pursue knowledge for its own benefit and create a stimulating intellectual environment for students, but at the same
time, it must work even more and even harder to act as the driving force of economic growth, become the central node in urban and regional
development, participate in creating social equality, spread research impact, deal with global problems, become an international entity, while
maintaining a responsibility to create benefits to the wider social community. The Faculty of Economics in Osijek has been successfully tackling such

dedicated to international cooperation in the fields of teaching and research, supported by numerous faculty activities out of which postgraduate
study programmes, especially the doctoral one, are of utmost importance. Students enrolled in the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in
Management have visited important places such as universities (Paris, Pforzheim), the European Community institutions (Brussels, Luxembourg,
Strasbourg), the famous Louvre, Orsay (Paris), the National Gallery and the Tate (London), Vatican City, Prado (Madrid), the Rijksmuseum
(Amsterdam), the Modern National Gallery (Budapest), Leopold Museum, Albertina, Belvedere, Schönbrunn (Vienna), Gulbekian (Lisbon), the
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, and in the last 13 years they have been participating in international conferences organized by the Faculty of
Economics in Osijek and its partners in Poreč and Opatija. It has been proven that such study visits is is broadening our horizons, enriching our souls,
and teaching us about new places and other cultures. Travelling also enables us to learn more about ourselves through experience extending our

Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management
The first Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management, launched in 2007, is the peak of the educational programme of the Faculty of
Economics in Osijek. In the spirit of the Bologna process, the Faculty of Economics in Osijek has managed to achieve the unique higher education
vertical in the field of Management. It started with the undergraduate study programme, continued with the graduate degree and it is currently
offering a postgraduate specialist study programme in Organization and Management. For the most ambitious doctoral candidates, it also offers the

About the Postgraduate doctoral study programme
The goal of the doctoral programme is to educate students for an academic research career in the field of business through teaching and direct
research. In line with general faculty values and strategies, the doctoral programme is based on the following: generation of a broad base of
intellectual capital, innovative educational experience, collaborative relationships with students as active contributors, and linking theory and
practicebasedonaction-basedlearning.
The concept of the doctoral study programme is based upon the programmes of American and European universities and has a good response from
PhD candidates from all over the Republic of Croatia because it successfully combines the teaching and research component of academic activity. The
Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management emphasizes the obligatory courses of Economics for Managers, Organizational Behaviour,
Operational Management, Marketing Management and Information Management with the support of 15 elective courses that allow additional
profilingofadoctoralcandidate.
Students who enrol in the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek are placed in an intensive
intellectual environment that requires full engagement in the study. In their efforts, they are assisted by Faculty staff that often joins them in working
on projects or as co-authors in particular publications. A practical side of the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management takes into
accountstudents'interests,theirlivesandwork,theirhopes,theirdesiresandtheirgoals.
Management skills are needed for anyone who is in the top position. For example, top positions in manufacturing, trade, healthcare, education, real,
non-profit, recreational and scientific organizations include managerial accountability. Management is equally applicable to self-employment, small
business,nationalaffairs,governmentorganizationsandmultinationalcompanies.

Strong support for the programme's performance and presentation of research papers is provided by foreign professors, especially in the
organization of scientific conferences and publishing book titled “Interdisciplinary Management Research// Interdisziplinäre Management
Forschung“, a series of editions indexed in prestigious international databases such as Thomson ISI, RePEc, Econ Papers, and Socionet. The statistics
reveal that since the beginning of the doctoral program more than 260 candidates have been enrolled; 19 professors are engaged in the programme
and the list of cities that have been visited as part of the experience outside the classroom includes travelling abroad, such as to Madrid, Lisbon,
Barcelona,Amsterdam,Rome,London,Vienna,Copenhagen,Brussels,Istanbul,ortoPorečandOpatijainCroatia.
The philosophy of mentorship
Every year, less than 30 students from a wide range of interested candidates are recruited, with on-going mentoring of eminent professors. For the
time being, this is a major foundation of the ex-postgraduate Master's Degree in Management, the Postgraduate specialist study programme in
OrganizationandManagement,andotherinterestedcandidatesforwhichweofferaPhDdegree.
Intellectual challenge, collegial spirit
Students admitted to the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek are in an intensive
intellectual environment that requires full engagement in the study. Unlike other postgraduate programmes that offer principles, methods, and
techniquesofdirectuseinthebusinessworld,thedoctoralprogrammerequiresstudentstodivergeabitfromtheeverydaybusinessworldandfocus
on questioning and research into why this world functions in the way it does as well as on asking and tackling the long-term issues that bridge theory
and practice. A distinguishing feature of studying at the Postgraduate study programme at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek is the collegial spirit and

Leadership
There have been 13 generations of PhD students enrolled in the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management. The programme follows
the Bologna Process proposals aiming at developing a manager who will demonstrate his/her leadership by his/her example: people with a sense of
social responsibility, with great aspirations and desire to stand out from the crowd by differentiating themselves from others. As global business
continuous to develop, these students acquire leadership skills for dynamic jobs where they are partners and respected members who understand
the world as one big community. During the past years, many students have been professionally profiled and gained significant acknowledgments as
individuals in terms of career advancement in their communities, as well as awards by the City of Osijek. The journal Lider has included two PhD
candidates coming from the Postgraduate doctoral study in Management among the 500 most influential women in the field of management. As
family business leaders, it is important for our PhD students to be constantly informed about the trends in education theory. For them, leadership is
not a question, it is the reality. In order to remain competitive and maintain their company, they understand that education is a lifetime process and

of their organization, marketing, finance, supply chain, management - and find solutions that will bring the whole organization to a higher level. In
terms of practicality and flexibility, the postgraduate doctoral study programme is tailored to adjust to the needs of students. The form of a lecture
one week a month (Saturday and Sunday is free) allows students in Osijek and our canters in Slavonski Brod and Poreč to attend lectures and maintain
mutual friendship and cooperation. The renewed and modernized Faculty of Economics in Osijek provides the opportunity to use information
technology.

Reputation of the postgraduate doctoral study programme
Our reputation is based on the Faculty of Economics in Osijek and its cooperation with partners from Croatia and abroad. Also, the Graduate study
programme in Management creates its own vertical profile from the undergraduate, graduate, and specialist postgraduate study programmes to the
doctoral study programmein Management. This verticalis supported byforeignprofessors engaged in our programmes as wellas professors who are
supporters to the management programme. The results of such cooperation are reflected in numerous expert excursions of postgraduates (to the
European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels, Leonardo de Vinci, Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinciin Paris, cultural exhibitions in Paris, Vienna,
Budapest, Rome, Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences (and the Baden Chamber of Commerce), Poreč (international conferences), and Opatija
(internationalconferences).
Team approach
Postgraduate studies do not only demonstrate teaching activity but offer an arena where participants get global perspectives. All these activities
bring students into a team collaboration position in which postgraduates exchange experience with team members, develop their personal

  • 5. 5 About the Postgraduate doctoral study programme The goal of the doctoral programme is to educate students for an academic research career in the field of business through teaching and direct research. In line with general faculty values and strategies, the doctoral programme is based on the following: generation of a broad base of intellectual capital, innovative educational experience, collaborative relationships with students as active contributors, and linking theory and practicebasedonaction-basedlearning. The concept of the doctoral study programme is based upon the programmes of American and European universities and has a good response from PhD candidates from all over the Republic of Croatia because it successfully combines the teaching and research component of academic activity. The Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management emphasizes the obligatory courses of Economics for Managers, Organizational Behaviour, Operational Management, Marketing Management and Information Management with the support of 15 elective courses that allow additional profilingofadoctoralcandidate. Students who enrol in the Postgraduate doctoral study programme in Management at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek are placed in an intensive intellectual environment that requires full engagement in the study. For example, top positions in manufacturing, trade, healthcare, education, real, non-profit, recreational and scientific organizations include managerial accountability. The statistics reveal that since the beginning of the doctoral program more than 260 candidates have been enrolled; 19 professors are engaged in the programme and the list of cities that have been visited as part of the experience outside the classroom includes travelling abroad, such as to Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona,Amsterdam,Rome,London,Vienna,Copenhagen,Brussels,Istanbul, ortoPorečandOpatijainCroatia. The philosophy of mentorship Every year, less than 30 students from a wide range of interested candidates are recruited, with on-going mentoring of eminent professors. The journal Lider has included two PhD candidates coming from the Postgraduate doctoral study in Management among the 500 most influential women in the field of management. As family business leaders, it is important for our PhD students to be constantly informed about the trends in education theory. For them, leadership is not a question, it is the reality.
