Buku setebal 20 halaman bercetak ini mengisahkan
mengenai persahabatan yang sangat erat di antara
kura-kura dan dua ekor itik. Cerita teladan ini ditulis oleh
Jamilah Hussin, seorang guru seni yang bertugas di SMK
Batu Kikir (Model Khas), Negeri Sembilan.
Buku ini telah diterbitkan oleh Cerdik Publications Sdn
Bhd untuk Majlis Buku Kebangsaan Malaysia (MBKM),
Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia pada tahun 2013. Ia
merupakan antara sepuluh karya terbaik yang telah
dihasilkan dalam Bengkel Penulisan dan Ilustrasi Buku
Kanak-Kanak di bawah bimbingan Encik Yusuf Gajah dan
Hajah Alimah Salam.
Saya memilih buku ini sebagai pilihan yang pertama
kerana susunan ceritanya yang teratur dan laras
bahasa yang digunakan sangat mudah untuk saya
fahami. Ilustrasi yang digunakan juga amat bertepatan
dan selari dengan penceritaan yang disampaikan.
Pemilihan watak dua jenis haiwan iaitu kura-kura
dan itik dalam cerita ini juga boleh diumpamakan seperti
pelbagai kaum yang terdapat di Malaysia. Bersahabat
tidak mengira warna kulit, bulu dan juga bangsa. Ia juga
menggambarkan keakraban kura-kura dan itik dalam
membantu untuk merealisasikan impian sahabat yang
ingin terbang. Impian kura-kura adalah melihat dunia
luar dari atas langit kerana selama ini dia hanya melihat
persekitaran di darat dan sungai sahaja.

61. Sedar akan kekurangan dirinya, kura-kura telah
menyatakan hasratnya yang ingin terbang kepada dua
ekor itik itu. Kedua-dua itik berusaha untuk
menggembirakan kura-kura. Mereka telah menggunakan
sebuah buaian kain untuk membawa kura-kura terbang.
Ini juga merupakan impian setiap manusia iaitu meneroka
dunia luar yang lebih indah dan mempesona walaupun
perlu melalui pengalaman yang getir dan mencabar.
Tidak terkecuali dengan kura-kura yang akhirnya
telah melalui suatu pengalaman yang menakutkan apabila
gigitan pada kiri dan kanan kain buaian yang digigit oleh
itik terlepas. Insiden ini terjadi kerana mereka telah
terlanggar sekumpulan awan yang tebal. Disebabkan
terkejut, itik telah membuka mulut mereka dan
menyebabkan kura-kura jatuh melayang-layang di
udara. Nasib kura-kura sangat baik kerana dia terjatuh
ke dalam air.
Dalam cerita ini juga mengajar kita agar bersyukur
dengan kelebihan dan kekurangan yang kita miliki.
Walaupun tidak boleh terbang, kura-kura mempunyai
kelebihan untuk berenang di dalam air. Ini telah
menyelamatkan dia daripada lemas.
Kita juga hendaklah sentiasa berfikiran positif. Kita
tidak boleh memandang rendah akan kekurangan yang
ada pada rakan-rakan di sekeliling kita. Hidup hendaklah
saling bantu-membantu dan bekerjasama kerana kita
saling perlu memerlukan untuk meneruskan kelangsungan
hidup.

62. LEMBU BERJANGGUT
( MUSLIHAT ABU NAWAS)
Kumpulan cerita Muslihat Abu Nawas ini telah diceritakan
kembali oleh Muhd Mansur Abdullah manakala ilustrasi buku
ini disediakan oleh Lam Le Siang. Buku ini telah diterbitkan oleh
Marshall Cavendish Children bagi edisi terbaharu pada
tahun 2009. Edisi pertama telah diterbitkan pada tahun 1983
dengan tajuk Siri Pertama Abu Nawas. Edisi kedua yang
bertajuk Helah Abu Nawas telah diterbitkan pada tahun 1989.
Buku ini mempunyai 64 halaman bercetak. Muslihat Abu
Nawas ini merupakan cerita jenaka yang telah berlaku di
sekitar Kota Baghdad semasa pemerintahan Sultan Harun al-
Rashid.
Saya memilih cerita Lembu Berjanggut untuk ulasan buku
kedua saya kerana tertarik dengan karakter Abu Nawas
yang bijak menyelesaikan masalah dan mempunyai ilmu
pengetahuan yang sangat tinggi. Abu Nawas juga seringkali
dikatakan gila oleh penduduk Baghdad kerana mereka tidak
tahu bahawa sebenarnya dia sangat pintar dan cerdik.
Sebenarnya itu hanyalah helah Abu Nawas untuk tidak
diambil bekerja di istana oleh sultan.
Sultan Harun telah memerintahkan Abu Nawas mencari
lembu berjanggut sebagai cara untuk mengetahui sama ada
Abu Nawas kurang siuman ataupun tidak. Demi
menyelamatkan dirinya, Abu Nawas telah bersetuju dan
berjanji untuk membawa lembu berjanggut kepada sultan. Dia
meminta tempoh selama seminggu untuk mendapatkan
lembu berjanggut itu.

63. Abu Nawas telah memerah otak berhari-hari untuk
melepaskan diri daripada menerima hukuman jika gagal
melaksanakan permintaan sultan. Akhirnya dia telah keluar ke
kampung-kampung untuk menjunjung permintaan Sultan yang
dikatakan sangat pelik dan tidak masuk akal.
Setiap kali terjumpa kumpulan orang ramai, Abu Nawas
akan bertanyakan satu soalan kepada mereka. “Hari apakah
hari ini?” Orang yang gagal menjawab dengan betul akan
diminta untuk mengikutnya pulang ke istana. Abu Nawas
menyatakan kepada mereka bahawa Sultan Harun al-Rashid
sedang mencari orang yang pintar dan berkelayakan untuk
menjadi pengawal baginda.
Sebelum cukup tempoh seminggu yang dijanjikan, Abu
Nawas telah membawa enam orang yang berjanggut bertemu
sultan. Mereka ini telah diajar untuk berjalan menggunakan kaki
dan tangan apabila menghadap sultan.
Apabila sampai di istana, Abu Nawas menyatakan bahawa
dia telah membawa enam ekor lembu berjanggut. Sultan Harun
al-Rashid sangat terkejut melihatkan enam orang berjanggut itu
berjalan meleret menggunakan kaki dan tangan. Baginda
mendengar saranan Abu Nawas supaya bertanyakan soalan
yang sama seperti yang ditanya kepada mereka iaitu hari
apakah hari ini?
Enam orang berjanggut itu gagal menjawab soalan yang
ditanya oleh sultan. Mereka tidak menjawab dengan betul hari
apakah hari ini. Sultan Harun al_Rashid mengagumi kepintaran
Abu Nawas dan kelicikan beliau dalam memberikan muslihat
untuk melepaskan diri daripada menerima hukuman.
Kesimpulan yang saya perolehi daripada cerita ini ialah
kita hendaklah berani dalam menyatakan kebenaran jika kita
tidak berbuat salah. Ilmu hendaklah dicari dan janganlah kita
berasakan diri kita bijak kerana ada orang lain yang lebih bijak
daripada kita.
