The study was done aiming the clinical confirmation of Hypericum perforatum 30 in treatment of Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy.
With increasing development of Information technology field there is an increase in use of computers which demand a particular posture for long hours and does not include any physical activity which in turn leads to postural deformities like cervical spondylosis and later radiculopathy.

IN MANAGEMENT OF
CERVICAL SPONDYLOTIC
RADICULOPATHY AND

NECK DISABILITY INDEX
2. Introduction
The study was done aiming the clinical confirmation of Hypericum perforatum 30 in treatment of
Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy.
With increasing development of Information technology field there is an increase in use of
computers which demand a particular posture for long hours and does not include any physical
activity which in turn leads to postural deformities like cervical spondylosis and later radiculopathy.
This study would bring an evidence based research in the pain management of cervical
spondylotic radiculopathy with hypericum 30 clinically.
This would also give confidence for the budding Homoeopaths in therapeutic management of
degenerative and life style disorders.
3. Aims and Objectives
TO ASCERTAIN THE EFFICACY OF HYPERICUM PERFORATUM 30 IN CASES OF
CERVICAL SPONDYLOTIC RADICULOPATHY
TO COMPARE THE EXTENT OF IMPROVEMENT WITH NECK DISABILITY INDEX
IN CASE OF CERVICAL SPONDYLOTIC RADICULOPATHY
4. Methods
SAMPLING
Cases from Outpatient department and Inpatient department and peripheral centers of government
homoeopathic medical college and hospital were taken.
Cases of both sexes , age group from 30years to 70years were taken.
Diagnosis has been made based on clinical presentation and X –ray findings. Hypericum 30 has been prescribed
on the patients, if the remedy was indicated and the subjects are observed for changes in pain. NDI ( neck
disability index) is used as a pain rating scale to record the intensity of pain before and after clinical management.
Sample size- 15

PROCEDURE
The cases required for the study were identified and sent for an X-ray of cervical
region lateral view as a diagnostic tool.
Patient’s detailed case was taken. All the symptoms were recorded.
According to the NECK DISABILITY INDEX, questions were asked and the
questionnaire was filled. Based on the questionnaire the patient was scored from
0-50 and it was noted.
9. Methods contd…
The patient was given HYPERICUM 30 and repetition was based on the presentation of the patient.
The patient was asked to come for the follow up after 2 weeks.
All the symptoms were recorded again and based on NDI scoring was done again.
Same was repeated for two follow ups with 2 weeks gap in each . Remedy repetition varied based
on the presentation of the patient.
All the PRE INTERVENTION and POST INTERVENTION scoring according to NDI was recorded and
compared.

PLAN FOR DATA ANALYSIS
Data was analyzed by using the descriptive statistics and the results are presented by using
frequency tables, diagrams and graphs. The case is statistically analyzed by paired ‘t’ test. The
paired sample t-test, sometimes called the dependent sample t-test, is a statistical procedure used
to determine whether the mean difference between two sets of observations is zero. In a paired
sample t-test, each subject or entity is measured twice, resulting in pairs of observations. Common
applications of the paired sample t-test include case-control studies or repeated-measures
designs. The significance of the treatment before and after using Homoeopathic treatment is also
tested.

14. Discussion
According to the study, the age group of 30-35 years is most affected i.e., 4 cases
(26.7%), followed by the age group of 61-65 years which has 3 cases (20%), 20% (3
cases) were between the age group of 46-50 years, 2 cases (13.3%) were between the
age group of 56-60 years , and there was 1 case (6.7%) each between the age group of
66-70 years, 51-55 yearsand 41-45 years.Cervical radiculopathy is a common cause of
both acute and chronic neck pain and upper-limb motor and sensory symptoms.
Among the 15 cases, 13 cases (86.7%) were females and 2 (13.3%) were males.
Generally, it is found that males are prone to get the disease than females. The
occupation has a major role to play in cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Most
uncomplicated neck pain is associated with poor posture, anxiety, and depression, neck
strain, occupational injuries, or sporting injuries.
15. Conclusion
The most common age group is found to be between 30-35 years.
Females and housewives are the most affected.
According to the study after the treatment, 12 cases were better, 2 cases no change and 1 case was not better.
According to the study, cases with mixed miasm are more than individual miasm in background of the cases in
the study.
The scores were statistically evaluated and thus we can conclude that administration of hypericum 30 could give
good relief in the pain management as well as the symptomatic relief of the disease, cervical spondylotic
radiculopathy.
