The National Guard provides numerous educational benefits to its members to assist in pursuing higher education. Upon enlistment, all Guardsmen qualify for Federal Tuition Assistance which covers up to 100% of tuition and fees, capped at $4,500 per year. In addition, some Guardsmen may be eligible for additional benefits like the Montgomery GI Bill or Post 9/11 GI Bill. These funds can pay for school supplies in addition to tuition. The National Guard Service Cancelable Loan Fund may repay up to $1,819 per semester. HERO scholarships of up to $2,000 per year are available for Guardsmen who have deployed or are children of deployed Guardsmen.
