2. Human beings are slowly becoming
dependent on technology
Technology has its advantages; for
instance, things are done much faster when
using technology unlike manual work
3. Private sectors
Public sectors
The use of technology has even been
embraced by education
Technology has been incorporated in
education through learning activities
4.
5. Technology also assists educators to
professionally develop as individuals
Therefore, teachers need to be competent
enough to use technology
7. To attain this skill; teachers need proper
skills, Values, knowledge, and attitude
Educators must have technological
capabilities (Skills)
Must also value the function of technology in
education (value)
Must be capable to utilise technology for
educational activities (knowledge)
Must project a positive and optimistic attitude
regarding use of technology in class (attitude)
8. The white paper on e-education guides the
department of education (DOE) on how to
incorporate information communication and
technology (ICT) into learning and teaching
activities
9. If the government adheres to these
guidelines; then education will successfully
be characterised by justice and equality
Education will be fair, and learning
opportunities will be equally accessible
10.
11. Improve learning
Are Competent planning and managing
Resources such as computer and science
laboratories with the latest technology
13. ‘a human society in which knowledge should
bring
justice, solidarity, democracy, peace…[a]
society in which knowledge could be a force
for changing society. A society which should
provide universal and equitable access to
information’
14.
15. Not only is information for
communicating, and creating data; but is also
A way of redressing past issues and to
transform the nation
16.
17. Networking contributes to the success of a
knowledge society, and it is imperative that
communication channels be vast and
unrestricted
19. Networks and the internet promote
collaboration between individuals and
groups;
Individual and collective intelligence
Teachers utilise classrooms to collect
collective intelligence by using collaboration
20. Technology is part of the knowledge society
Teachers must be competent enough to teach
the knowledge society
Must also be able to develop collective
intelligence through technology
21. Even though ICT has a major influnce in the
classroom; teachers can never be replaced in
classrooms.
= ×
22. The core function of a teacher is to be a
mediator between knowledge and student
23. Teachers need to be fully competent, hence
the government must provide adequate
training
Poverty and inequality can be eradicated
through education
Education is the key to unlock the golden
door of freedom.
‘Education is the key to unlock the golden
door of freedom’_George Washington Carver
24. Education is a way in which individuals
empower themselves
Therefore it should be of high quality
Hence emphasis is placed on teacher training
and innovation by the National Development
Plan
25.
26. The National Development Plan is a step
process of charting a new path for our
country. By 2030, we seek to eliminate
poverty and reduce inequality. We seek a
country wherein all citizens have the
capabilities to grasp the ever-broadening
opportunities available

27. Foundation phase is an important stage
because it is the introduction of
language, mathematics and science to
learners
Also, the skills and values that are learnt in
schools have a direct influence on tertiary
education
28. Higher education is directly linked to
economical development
Therefore, it is imperative that higher
institutes must possess excellent
mathematics and science to attain innovation
29. Violence, corruption, racial issues, service
delivery, and the existing gap between the
rich and poor spoils the idea of South Africa
attaining transformation
30. Universities have a core role of educating and
training people with high level skills for so
that they are employable
Universities/Tertiary institutions also have the
responsibility to critique information and
apply existing information
They also set standards that determine
curriculum, language, knowledge, and ethics
that reinforce society’s knowledge capital
31. Higher education offers society the
opportunity of social justice, equality, and
democracy
But higher educational institutions are not the
only source that can obtain global
information, therefore the government should
intervene by providing the appropriate
facilities that support research and innovation
32. It is important that the government and
education address the psychological state of
learners
By considering issues such as basic service
delivery, housing provision, and policy
making.
33. Government invests in teachers as mediators
between knowledge and technology
One of the ways is through the bursary
scheme ‘Funza Lushaka’
This has attracted outstanding students to
take teaching as a career
34. Free education for all is a dream that the
governments hopes to achieve by the year
2015
It is a dream that 75 million children should
be enrolled in school by 2015
35. This dream can only be realised or achieved if
the nation collaborates and the states ensure
that textbooks arrive in time.
The following is an example of what should
not occur in the future so that this goal can
be achieved:
36.
37.
38. This dream will also be achieved if states
provide good, qualified and competent
teachers
Society at large can also contribute to this
dream becoming true by raising money
towards education
39. The answer to empowering women, fighting
HIV/AIDS, strengthening democracy, and
eliminating poverty is education
The human race has greatly embraced the use and advances of technology in their daily lives; moreover, it is justifiable to state that the human race is dependent on technology and its advantages.
Technology has developed and it is important that every sector should now embrace its use, and the use of technology has even become necessary in education. It has become important to incorporate the use of technology into educational activities because teachers are able to develop as individuals and are also able to maintain their professionalism by being effective teachers that are competent enough to use technology
…the use of technology has even become necessary in education
…teachers are able to develop as individuals and are also able to maintain their professionalism by being effective teachers that are competent enough to use technology
…teachers that are competent enough to use technology
However, in order to achieve this skill - teachers need to acquire the proper skills, values, knowledge, and attitude. Technologically advanced teachers are able to design and provide assessment for learners of the 21st century; learners that are mostly technologically skilled.
The White Paper on e-education guides the department of Education on how to feature information communication and technology (ICT) into teaching and learning activities successfully
so that education is successfully equal, and is characterised by justice and quality
so that education is successfully equal, and is characterised by justice and quality
Schools that use ICT are competent in planning and managing; have learners who use ICT to improve learning; have ICT resources that support the school curriculum, resources such as computer labs and research facilities with the latest technology
Moreover, schools that integrate ICT into the curriculum and in learning and teaching activities support and build a knowledge society
‘a human society in which knowledge should bring justice, solidarity, democracy, peace…[a] society in which knowledge could be a force for changing society. A society which should provide universal and equitable access to information’
‘a human society in which knowledge should bring justice, solidarity, democracy, peace…[a] society in which knowledge could be a force for changing society. A society which should provide universal and equitable access to information’
Therefore, it is imperative that schools completely embrace and integrate the use of ICT in the curriculum to create a knowledgeable society. A society in which information will not only be a way of communicating, storing, and processing information; but will also be a way of using information to redress imbalances of the past and will act as an agent of change; and will also unite the society as a whole.
In order for the knowledge society to succeed it is essential that the power of networking should be used, communication channels should be vast and have no restrictions
In order for the knowledge society to succeed it is essential that the power of networking should be used, communication channels should be vast and have no restrictions. As a result of effective networking knowledge will be available to everyone and easily accessible.
In this vast network of knowledge communication; communication can be between one on one, or to the media. Moreover, it is through knowledgeable networks that education can also be facilitated, and there has to be room for new knowledge; new teaching; new learning; new tools; new resources; and new space and time
Also, it is important to note that this networked society and the internet promote collaboration between individuals, and collective intelligence. One of the aims of education is that teachers should build a collective intelligence; and teachers can achieve this goal by using the classroom to develop collective intelligence of pupils and utilise collaboration work effectively.
As mentioned earlier that technology has a major influence on education; it is important that teachers are competent enough to teach in the knowledge society; in the network society; and have the ability to develop collective intelligence through technology; new knowledge; and though effective and efficient management
Even though e-education/e-learning is very reliant on technology, it is important to stress that a teacher can never be replaced; hence the ICT confirms that the core function of a teacher is to be the mediator between knowledge and the student.
…hence the ICT confirms that the core function of a teacher is to be the mediator between knowledge and the student.
It is necessary that adequate teacher training be provided to achieve South Africa’s long term development. Education and training is one of the ways in which poverty and inequality in society can be eliminated
Education is a tool that empowers thousands of people to take control of their own lives and to determine their self worth and improve their living standards; therefore, it is justifiable to state that education should be of high quality. Hence training, innovation, and education is emphasised in National Development Plan.
The plan emphasises the importance of good foundation skills such as language, mathematics, and science. The skills and values that are learnt in schools have a direct influence on higher education.
Higher education plays a key role in conveying information and integrating it with economical development. However, it is vital for a higher institute to possess excellent mathematics and science, and it is also important for students to have good maths and science because if both parties have such skills then future innovation will easily be attained. So, it is evident that the foundation of education should be a solid one, and of high quality
Assaf (2011) argues that ‘[i]nnovation in South Africa is not easy due to issues such as violence, corruption, racial issues, poor service delivery, and the gap that exists between the rich and poor’. Despite the afore mentioned challenges to reaching transformation; universities need to fully understand that their key role is to educate and train people with high level skills for employment needs of the public and private sectors; and to produce and critique information and find application for existing information, also, universities set standards and norms that determine the curriculum, language, knowledge, and ethics that strengthen society’s knowledge capital

Lastly, higher education offers the nation privilege and opportunity of social justice, equality, and democracy. Bearing in mind that universities are no longer the only source that obtains global information, it is imperative that the government engage in understanding the significance and role of science and technology in shaping the future of our nation by creating a framework that conducts; supports, and facilitates outstanding research and innovation.
As previously mentioned before that primary, secondary, and higher education stages are all important for eradicating poverty; improving ones standard of living, and addressing inequality; the psychological state of learners’ should also be put into account, and this includes the effect of the macro system in a child’s learning; for instance, issues such as policy making, housing provision, basic service delivery etc are all important for producing an education system that works well and benefits every learner.
As mentioned above that teachers are core role players in mediating teaching and learning, it is imperative that the government invests in present teachers and in future teachers; and the state has successfully demonstrated this by various ways. One of the ways that the government is investing in teachers and student teachers is by offering the FunzaLushaka bursary scheme; this is also a strategy to attract learners with excellent passes in mathematics, science, and languages into the teaching profession. Therefore, it is clear that the current student teachers in higher education institutions at the moment are part of the fulfilments of the National Development Plans.
It is also important to dwell on the issue of equal access to education, and that education should be for everyone who requires it. Hence, there is a dream to educate 75 million children around the world by the year 2015
This can be accomplished by working together to build schools; ensure that there are text books in schools and that they arrive at an opportune time
and the provision of good and competent teachers, and as well as the courage to transform and change, and lastly the ability and willingness to raise money for education.;
Working together this can be achieved, and this dream can be turned into a reality; and by collaborating as a nation to achieve these goals we will be contributing to empowering women; strengthening democracy; fighting Hiv/Aids; and eradicating poverty
