This document outlines the development of a national curriculum to educate pediatric residents about autism spectrum disorders. It was created through collaboration between multiple developmental behavioral pediatrics programs and the Centers for Disease Control. The curriculum contains 7 modules on topics like screening, diagnosis and treatment. It was developed by a team of faculty and trainees over several months in 2009. It will be piloted at select sites in early 2010 before being revised and distributed nationally to pediatric residency programs later that year.
