Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Harrison House from Major Ed Pulido
To Whom It May Concern:
Greetings! My name is Major Edward Pulido, U.S. Army (Ret.). I am the Co-Founder and Sr.
Vice President for the Folds of Honor Foundation. I am honored to recommend Mr.
Harrison House for this outstanding position with Langston University. I have known
Harrison for the past 15 years and he is a person that epitomizes the qualities you seek for
this esteemed position with every aspect of his life.
Upon first meeting Harrison during my tenure at the United Way, we attended a luncheon
together and unbeknownst to me, he was there to develop a partnership with me. Later, I
found out that he came to the luncheon to meet me by orders from his Executive Officer,
Marilyn Long at Northeast Resource Center. While at the luncheon, we sat at the same
table and found out both of us had a common connection, military service. We shared the
same passion with our professional career, both in the nonprofit sector and with our
military careers. He was a fundraiser with Northeast Resource Center and I was a
Community Investment Director for the United Way of Central Oklahoma.
Harrison expressed his vision for Northeast Resource Center regarding funding for
programs he had discussed with his Executive Director and board member but funding was
not yet gathered. He was focused on the present yet he wanted to do an after school
program for the community that Northeast Resources, domiciled. I told him about the
Target Initiative for After-School grant funding that the United Way and Target Retail
Outlets have partnered on to award funding to nonprofit organizations for after school
havens for youth.
Harrison was an essential component in developing, cultivating and implementing this
consortium between Northeast Resource Center, United Way of Central Oklahoma and
Targets. He assisted all principles in the process of board and community governance on
reporting outcomes on their highly successful after-school programming. He made the
transition for all parties easy, efficient and brought transparency to all philanthropic funds
spent for the after-school program.
From his connections of calls, discussions and visits to United Way of Central Oklahoma, we
awarded Northeast Resource Center a community grant that assisted them in starting up
their after school program with Harrison being an instrumental community partner in
assisting in the implementation of the program and in helping it provide detail reports on
its progress which one was one of many conditions of the grant.
Harrison displayed a servitude leadership style, which listeners could feel the compassion
he expressed in communicating his vision for this initiative, an after-school program. From
his leadership, the program thrived and from his skill sets the program was adequately
funded and reports were disseminated according to requirements. They started out with
twenty students and today that number has exponentially grown to over one thousand
students from various Oklahoma City Public School where ages range from 13-17 years old.
Later, he told me that the after-school program spawn too two other relative programs,
Backpack Giveaways and School Supplies & Clothing Giveaway prior to the start of the
school year. Harrison always exhibited compassion for the population Northeast Resource
Center served and I’m certain that he will do the same for Langston University.
Honoring their Sacrifice, Educating their Legacy! Harrison and Folds of Honorwill not leave
anyone behind on the field of battle or in the community we serve. So help us God!
Respectfully,
Major Ed “Rock” Pulido
