Ed Hutton
When I was Vice President of Development and ProductManagement at Ericsson,
I was starting the Cable Modem Business. The operation was in North Carolina. I
learned from Stockholm of Walt’s background. I contacted the key individuals to
have Walt on loan for six months from the Broadband division in Plano to support
our business unit.
Walt was absolutely invaluable. Walt established 'all' of our early customer
contacts. Walt also reviewed and contributed to the early productrequirements and
designs. Walt was instrumental in driving key productdifferentiations, project
management and obtaining the correct certifications via testing, which led to our
first major national account. Walt's tact and connections opened many doors forus.
Walt was helpful bothtechnically and with strategic marketing issues. Walt has
an extensive network throughout the industry both within North America and
Europe. He has finely tuned people skills. Walt is an unusual technologist, sure he
soaks up any technology like a sponge and he knows more about RF than most
people you are ever going to meet; but his best feature is Walt is modest and easy
going. Everyone from executive officer to design engineer loves working with
Walt. Wise, astute, experienced, and culturally experienced internationally; Walt is
an asset to any organization lucky enough to employ him.
When Walt offers a business opinion – take careful notes. He quietly asks a
humble question often saving your team millions and gently steers a design
team in the right direction. He definitely does his homework. Technically very
well rounded and widely respected, Walt has good technical skills in many areas. I
received compliments on Walt from people throughout the worldwide organization
and from customers.
