Aims and Scope: To introduce basic microeconomic concepts and tools for microeconomic analysis.
Prerequisites: None. I will assume basic knowledge of algebra and analytical geometry.
Text: Krugman, P. and R. Wells (2007). Microeconomics. 2nd edition. Worth.
Course Requirements and Grading: There will be two midterm exams and a final exam. The dates of the
midterm exams are pre-announced and will not be changed under any condition.
Midterm I 06/11/07 17:00-18:00

The final exam date is announced by the Registrar’s Office.
Note that lecture attendance is not mandatory, however it is highly recommended. I may take
attendance on occasion during lectures. In addition, your in-class performance and participation to class
discussion will matter for your final grade.
Apart from the lectures, there will be weekly one-hour problem sessions conducted by teaching
assistants. The time and place of the problem sessions will be announced in the first week of classes.
Your final grade will consist of your exam grades, as well as your in-class performance and
attendance. Below is the list of weights of each item in defining your final letter grade from the course.
These weights will not be changed under any condition.

The course web page is accesible through the Economics Department’s web site at www.econ.boun.edu.tr.
The course web page is very important. Announcements and lecture notes are posted on the course web
page. Be sure to follow the web page regularly.
Make-up Exams: Make-up exam will be available for those students who miss an exam with a valid
medical excuse. In case of a failure to provide proof of medical excuse, the student will not be able to take
the make-up exam.
2. Problem Sessions: There will be weekly one-hour problem sessions conducted by teaching assistants. The
times and locations of the problem sessions will be announced on the course’s web site. You will need to
sign up for one problem session and attend that session regularly. At each review session a quiz will be given
which will be graded and returned to you as a feedback. However, your grade from the quiz will not affect
your course grade. Quizzes will serve as an indication of your attendance.
