What to Do With an Uncertain Future (Ecclesiastes 11:1-6)Dr. Rick Griffith
This document summarizes a sermon on Ecclesiastes 11:1-6 about dealing with an uncertain future. It makes three key points:
1. The sermon tells believers to give generously and invest wisely, as the future is unknown. People should diversify their investments instead of putting "all their eggs in one basket."
2. Due to the uncertainty of the future, people should work hard and not be lazy or procrastinate. Just as the path of the wind cannot be known, so too is God's activity unknown.
3. In light of this uncertain future, the main idea is that one should give generously, invest wisely, and work hard, as one
This document summarizes Ecclesiastes 7:15-29 from a sermon by Dr. Rick Griffith. It contains 3 main points:
1. Wisdom is balanced, avoiding extremes of righteousness and sinfulness.
2. Wisdom is strong, avoiding weakness from being blind to one's own faults.
3. Wisdom is insightful, avoiding thinking one has all the answers but still showing insight. It notes wisdom is difficult to attain and that while people were created to be virtuous, they tend toward wickedness.

God desires for all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. His greatest motivation for offering salvation is His immense love for all humanity. He wants His children to come home as soon as possible. God reveals Himself through nature, circumstances, and Jesus, but He has chosen believers to announce and share the plan of salvation with others in order to offer salvation, make God glad by bringing Him joy, help believers grow spiritually, obey Jesus' commandment to spread the gospel, and share God's love for all people.

1) The document discusses how people search for meaning, purpose, and satisfaction in life through things like work, wealth, pleasure, and achievements but these are all meaningless and like "chasing the wind."
2) It suggests three ways people try to fill the "hole" in their lives: get more, do more, and be more, but these are temporary and external.
3) The conclusion is that life has purpose because God created us, loves us, and gave his son for us, so our meaning and significance comes from our relationship with God, not from earthly things.

This document is a summary of a sermon about how problems can cause believers to draw closer to God through trust, prayer, and viewing problems as tests from God. It discusses maintaining self-control and discipline when facing troubles. The sermon argues that problems will never be greater than God's power and that God promises to answer calls for help and deliver the righteous from all their troubles. Maintaining faith and turning to God are presented as the keys to overcoming problems.
God offers salvation to all people because He loves everyone and wants them to be saved. God uses people to share the good news of salvation with others so that all people have an opportunity to hear the gospel and be saved. Witnessing brings joy to God when people accept His salvation. The lessons encourage Christians to fulfill the great commission by sharing the gospel with others out of their love for God and what He has done for them.
This document provides an overview of the Book of James. It discusses who James was as one of Jesus's half-brothers who initially did not believe but later became a prominent leader in the Jerusalem church. It says James wrote to dispersed Jewish Christians to help them understand how to live as believers facing trials. It outlines James's advice to face trials with joy, understand that God is at work through trials to strengthen faith, and to ask God for wisdom to endure trials well and receive the crown of life.
The document discusses the biblical covenants between God and humanity. It provides background on major covenants like the ones with Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David. The focus is on God's covenant with Noah after the flood, as described in Genesis 9. Key points made are that God is always the initiator of covenants, uses covenants for the benefit of all creation, and remains persistent in the covenant even when met with silence. The rainbow is presented as God turning the bow towards God's self as a sign of the covenant.

Overall it promotes appreciating rest under the shadow of God's love as a way to gain strength and reduce worry.
God's salvation is received freely through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works or deeds, according to the Bible passages. The verses from Ephesians state that salvation is a gift from God received through faith, not by works, so that no one can boast. John's gospel similarly says that those who believe in Jesus are not condemned, while those who do not believe are already condemned. Both passages convey that salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not by any human works or merits.
It then explores how individuals can experience salvation through repentance, faith, justification and regeneration as they contemplate God's love and pardoning grace shown through Christ's death. Salvation radically changes the believer as it forgives all sin and grants them new life.
The document discusses different methods of interpreting biblical prophecy, including preterism, futurism, and historicism. It argues that the historicist method allows prophecies in Daniel and Revelation to be understood as predictions of events from the author's time to the present. Specifically, it identifies symbols like beasts and horns in Daniel as representing successive kingdoms from Babylon to Rome. Rome is identified as persecuting God's people for 1,260 years, which historicists apply to the period of papal supremacy from 538 to 1798 AD. The document also discusses principles like the "year-day" principle and typology that aid in interpreting prophecies involving symbolic time periods. The culmination of these prophecies, it suggests

While humans can recognize their sins and repent, it is God who gives the faith to believe and enables repentance. True faith is not just mental belief but a personal trust in Jesus as savior. The righteousness received through faith in Christ covers believers, allowing them to enter God's kingdom. Ongoing salvation requires abiding in Jesus' teachings and being his disciples by living according to the Bible and sharing him with others. Salvation is solely a gift from God and cannot be earned or deserved through
The document discusses how Christians should develop patience and persistence when facing trials. It addresses three questions: When should one wait, why wait patiently, and how to wait patiently. Regarding when, one should wait even when circumstances are out of their control, others do not change, or there is no explanation for suffering. As for why, waiting demonstrates that God is in control and will reward patience and persistence. On how, one should wait with a sense of expectation, without grumbling or complaining, and remain faithful in prayer. Overall, the document provides biblical advice for Christians on developing patience when experiencing hardships and suffering.
Jesus was tempted by Satan to receive power and authority over all the earthly kingdoms if he bowed down and worshipped Satan instead of remaining faithful to God's law. Jesus resisted this temptation in order to fulfill God's plan of salvation and defeat Satan. As a result of Jesus' victory, believers have assurance that they too can become citizens of God's eternal kingdom if they accept Jesus and obey God's law, being washed from sin. Only those who are righteous through faith in Christ can inherit the kingdom of God. God's law will still exist in the eternal kingdom, ensuring there is no more death or sin.

This document discusses being truly "in Christ" and the evidence that should exist for someone who has genuinely encountered Him. It notes that while claiming to be in Christ, some people's lives do not show the fruit of abiding in Him. True conversion to Christ should be definite, unambiguous, and transformational. It then outlines four things God requires - acknowledging sin, having faith in Christ's work, confessing His lordship, and connecting to Him through discipleship. Finally, it lists several evidences that should exist in someone who is truly in Christ, such as a new life, love for God and others, obedience, and progressive sanctification.

The paintings depict doves, DNA strands, scrolls, and locks to symbolize concepts like the Holy Spirit, the foundation of man, gaining knowledge from God's word, and God's hidden wisdom. The accompanying text discusses passages from Isaiah, Genesis, Peter and other books describing how God's spirit imparts wisdom, understanding, and knowledge to accomplish his works and lead people to distinguish good from evil.
The document is an overview of the biblical book of Ecclesiastes presented by Christopher R. Smith. It summarizes that Ecclesiastes uses the Hebrew term "hevel" to describe things in life that are fleeting and temporary rather than enduring sources of meaning. However, relationships and finding joy in the present moment are paradoxically enduring and what truly provide meaning and significance. The overall message is not to let the pursuit of future rewards prevent you from living fully today and finding meaning through relationships and present experiences.
The document discusses the meaninglessness of life when only considering earthly or temporal things. It notes that under the sun, everything follows endless cycles and there is nothing truly new. Generations come and go but the basic cycles of nature remain the same. The conclusion suggests that the meaning of life is found not in experiencing temporal things, but rather in serving God, the creator of all things.

This document provides definitions for over 30 common proverbs or sayings. Some of the proverbs defined include "absence makes the heart grow fonder" meaning love grows with distance, "don't count your chickens before they are hatched" meaning one shouldn't assume success until results are known, and "time heals all wounds" referring to how wounds heal with the passing of time. The document defines proverbs relating to topics like appearance versus character, learning from past experiences, dealing with problems, making plans versus outcomes, and more.
The document summarizes key passages and themes from the book of Ecclesiastes. It discusses how the Teacher/preacher found life "under the sun" to be meaningless when he searched for meaning through pleasure, wealth, possessions and other worldly pursuits. The document notes that Ecclesiastes presents a realistic view of life without the hope of Christ and highlights how only through faith in Jesus can life have ultimate meaning and purpose. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of balancing time spent on eternal versus temporary matters.
This document discusses how time has no meaning in three situations: 1) When one has nothing to live for and their work seems meaningless, as described in Ecclesiastes, 2) When the task at hand is of great importance, such as Anna's service at the temple or Paul's warnings, and 3) In consideration of eternity, whether eternal punishment or eternal life, as eternity exists outside of time and a thousand years is like a day.

This passage from Ecclesiastes discusses how sorrow, mourning, and thinking about death are better than laughter and only thinking about happiness. It says a wise person thinks about death because life is short and fleeting like grass that grows then fades and blows away. The Psalms also compare life to grass that is here then gone, saying life is difficult and brief, so we should live wisely.
This is an encouraging, fun-filled message of hope for anyone about to enter a new phase of life.

This document discusses the dangers of not hearing and responding to God's voice. It identifies three main hazards: 1) God will become angered as he was with Israel in the wilderness. 2) Our hearts will become hardened to God's message the more we ignore and disobey him. Sin deceives us and makes our hearts less receptive to God. 3) We will run out of time to respond to God, as the opportunity to accept his message is only available "today" and not after we die. The document urges readers to listen to God's voice and not harden their hearts so as to avoid these dangers.
The document discusses the importance of guarding one's heart and having the right heart, head, and home. It emphasizes that a pure heart is necessary to see God and experience heaven. Having the right information in one's head through studying scripture is also important. Together, a pure heart and informed mind will lead to the right home of heaven. The document encourages readers to make sure Jesus is on the throne of their heart so they can one day dwell with God in their eternal home.
This document summarizes key themes from the Book of Ecclesiastes. It discusses how life can be futile and vain when lived apart from God. The document outlines how Ecclesiastes describes different seasons and purposes under heaven. It emphasizes finding meaning and purpose in life through fearing God and keeping his commandments.
The document analyzes the question "What aileth thee now?" posed by the prophet Isaiah. It summarizes that the main issues were: 1) the illusion of security from threats, 2) the illusion of finding happiness through reckless pleasure-seeking, and 3) the illusion of self-reliance without relying on God. The question calls the people to recognize these illusions and accept God's invitation to action by turning to him for true security, joy and reliance.

The document summarizes several passages from the book of Psalms that deal with feelings of uncertainty, suffering, and the apparent absence of God. The Psalms express confusion over why the righteous suffer while the wicked prosper. They question how long God will allow his people to suffer and his name to be dishonored. However, the Psalms also demonstrate persisting in prayer and communication with God despite life's difficulties. They express confidence that God will not remain silent or absent forever. The document encourages learning from the Psalms to trust in God's faithfulness even when he feels distant.
Chris Price speaks on the prodigal sons from Luke 15:11ff. Chris picks up on a definition of prodigal which states "recklessly extravagent" and rightly concludes that the Father's forgiveness could be described just that way.
The pastor discusses several Bible passages about how Christians should treat each other. Christians are called to show compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. God chose believers before creation to be holy and blameless through Jesus. They should forgive each other as God forgave them, and above all put on love, which unites them.
The document discusses Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, where Jesus commands his followers to make disciples of all nations by baptizing them and teaching them to obey all of Jesus' commands. It provides several biblical examples of teaching children about God, including passages from Deuteronomy and Acts. The overall message is about the importance of teaching others about Jesus' teachings and commands out of love for God and others.
The document summarizes a letter from Jeremiah to exiles in Babylon. It encourages the exiles to settle down, have families, and seek the prosperity of Babylon, as their exile will last 70 years. However, it warns against listening to false prophets, and promises that God will fulfill his plan to bring the exiles back to their homeland and give them hope for the future when they wholeheartedly seek him.
The document discusses themes of work, wealth, and laziness according to passages from Ecclesiastes and other books of the Bible. The document also contains quotes stating that laziness leads to problems and hardship, while diligent work is valuable.
The document discusses Ecclesiastes 9:1-9 and both the positive and negative effects of alcohol consumption. It notes that while alcohol can cause violence, poverty, and other negative effects if misused, it is also used for celebration in the Bible and in moderation in the Lord's Supper. The passage encourages enjoying life, food, wine, and one's wife within the meaningless days given under the sun.
The document discusses good leadership and obedience to authority. It provides several biblical passages that emphasize submitting to governing leaders as established by God. The passages advise obeying commands of kings and leaders to avoid harm. While people cannot control death, the wise will know proper procedures. Overall, the document encourages obeying leadership as appointed by God.
The document discusses passages from Ecclesiastes that provide words of wisdom. It notes that outsiders and young Christians see present-day Christianity as judgmental and hypocritical. Ecclesiastes advises avoiding extremes of being overly righteous or wicked. A story is told of a Pharisee praying proudly about himself compared to a tax collector who humbly asks for God's mercy. The passage discusses pursuing wisdom but its elusiveness, and how God made humanity upright though people pursue many schemes. It ends discussing reconciliation through Christ.
The document discusses the biblical perspective on money and wealth. It notes that Jesus spoke more about money than any other subject, with many parables related to handling finances. While money can help alleviate some concerns, it also brings worries in obtaining, keeping, using, abusing, and losing it. The document encourages being content with food and clothing rather than pursuing wealth. It suggests storing up heavenly treasures instead of earthly possessions that can be destroyed.
The document discusses Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 and focuses on the theme of listening rather than speaking hastily. It provides several quotes from the passage about guarding one's words before God, fulfilling vows made to God, and standing in awe of God rather than engaging in meaningless dreams and words. The wise person listens more than speaks.
Jesus asks his disciples who they say he is. Peter identifies him as the Messiah. Jesus then predicts his death and resurrection, but Peter rejects this idea. Jesus rebukes Peter, saying his perspective is merely human. The passage then outlines how Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day according to scripture, appearing to his disciples including Peter and over 500 others.

The document summarizes the biblical story of the Magi following a star to visit the infant Jesus and bring him gifts. It then provides statistics about holiday spending in Canada and the United States, noting that Canadians will spend an estimated $18 billion total at Christmas while Americans will spend billions on various gifts and consumables. It closes by reflecting on how that money could be used to help provide clean water, education, and end hunger globally if directed to the right causes that help people.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
