Hybrids for trucks and buses: Eaton has the broadest range of technologies (diesel-electric hybrids, diesel-hydraulic hybrids), for delivery trucks (Coca Cola, Pepsi, FedEx, UPS), city buses (Beiqi Foton Bus, China), refuse trucks (Waste Management). More than 13 million in-service revenue miles to date. Superchargers , traditionally used for power in performance cars, now being used by Audi and others to improve fuel efficiency. Use smaller engine + supercharger to get same power as larger engine. Eaton’s high pressure hydraulic system helped Airbus reduce weight of A380 by 1 metric ton, saving fuel and CO2 emissions. Lighting Controls automatically dim or turn off lights in buildings, when rooms are unoccupied or natural light is available. Electricity metering and audits allow building owners to identify and improve inefficient electricity usage. Datacenters consume 1.2% of US electricity. Eaton’s UPS systems lead the industry in efficiency and help reduce electricity consumption. Wind : Hydraulic controls for blade pitch (angle to wind); Electrical controls for turbine operations and to connect turbines to the electric grid. Solar : Electrical controls connect photovoltaic cells to buildings, substations, and the grid. Hydropower : Hydraulic controls open & close the gates; controls gate position & turbine blade pitch; maintain connection between turbine & generator. Growing market, especially in APR and LAR. Biofuels: Agriculture (sugarcane) creates demand for trucks, truck transmissions, esp. in LAR. Eaton Filtration equipment used to process sugarcane into ethanol / biofuel. New hydraulic fuel hoses for use in trucks, boats, and lawn care equipment do not degrade when used with biofuel and reduce fuel emissions through the hose.
