Race to win, rather than race to the bottom!
Continued consolidation of the food supply base will lead to more powerful and assertive customers in some markets. These customers are placing increasing demand on the entire supply chain for reduced cost and higher levels of value delivery. While many companies focus on price reduction as a solution they soon realize that there is only so much supplier margin and they soon become in effective in trying to meet the increasing demands of the customer and company management. This requires value-based relationships will require substantial changes in behavior by the buyer and seller. HR Shared Services Benchmarking Study Highlights: May 2017ScottMadden, Inc.
ScottMadden has joined forces with American Productivity & Quality Center (APQC), a benchmarking and best practices research organization, to conduct the forth cycle of the HR Shared Services (HRSS) Benchmarking Study. This study identifies gaps in HR SS benchmarking data specific to service center and center of expertise (CoE) staffing and performance metrics, targeting HRSS organizations with a service center and CoEs.
Procurement Reformation in South East AsiaThomas Cheah
Various figures in recent market research has highlighted the Procurement Reformation that is taking place in South East Asia, moving from tactical functions to a strategic role. This is an insightful presentation shared by Supakit Kitsaran - Strategic Sourcing Manager at Siam City Cement, in our previous Procurement Quarterly Meetup.
Supakit has spent more than 17 years experience in the field of Procurement. He have worked with many communities and industries such as latex, steel, copper, third party services, and logistics. His vast experience has equipped him with the know-how and insights to improve procurement from demand management all the way to value analysis and value engineering. In his current role, he leads cross functional team for new project initiatives in domain of outsourcing services.
The following is his 30-minutes presentation, where he looked into the challenges that procurement professionals face across South East Asia and Asia, and how these challenges are being currently addressed. He also examined the tools and technology that are instrumental in the Procurement Reformation of this region, as well as other motivation factors that drive South East Asian Procurement professionals in this reformation – such as low-cost operations, rapid market growth and China's growing influence on South East Asia.
This webinar delves deep into three different talent acquisition models – Enterprise Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO), Hybrid RPO and In-house Recruitment – to describe the experiences of working with either an RPO partner or an in-house team.
This lecture slide was prepared for my guest lecture session in Bina Nusantara University's undergraduate program of International Business Management. It discussed the role of procurement function in an organisation, and how the function has been continuously evolved to meet market expectation by engaging business partners, as well as intra-company stakeholders. It shares top tips of how buyer can create value-add to the business from the book “Value-Added Purchasing” written by Eberhard E. Schening, PhD. Enjoy this as a part of your learning journey!

Past internships:
GE Appliances – ovens/cooktops: New product development (R&D, design, alpha/beta testing)
Triumph – structural components for aircraft [wings/empennages]: Manufacturing (manufacturing, root cause analysis, cost savings)
Eastman: Procurement (business, contract/negotiating, supplier relationships)
Experienced “full-circle” of engineering
Blessing in disguise, as you’ll see…
1st got here, so many business-type words and acronyms… So confusing!
Decided to make reference manual for future interns, co-ops, or new hires. Good 1st project because I learned a lot doing it.
4 Parts:
Overview of GIPSC’s role in supply chain
Buzzwords and acronyms
Basic instructions for commonly used software
Quick links to important websites
2nd project: Joint project
EMN has suppliers SRMs take top suppliers and build relationships so both companies can be win-win
Initially asked # that are current developed into who are we missing
Started w/ M&E/C&S ended up capturing all of GIPSC
Next steps…
Indian Orchard site in Springfield, MA
3 full-time and 4 interns
This is 7 people in 1 month. At this rate:
Finish all contracts in 21 weeks (~5 months)
If no team, would take 150 weeks (~3 years) to finish all contracts
In a nutshell, it is an informative document that captures and analyzes current data in order to better predict the direction of change
Category plans = drum beat of army marching to battle
Better to detect and correct things before they happen
Have to study your enemy to find weaknesses - Chinese military general
Trip to pump shop: Saw how pump was built and even helped a little
Lots of data mining (PIVOT TABLES), graphing/plotting, and trend analysis
Wrote research paper with 3 main components: Know self (EMN), enemy (suppliers/competitors), terrain (market/industry)
Next steps: currently working on CS Document to give insight and guidance
Lots of learning & networking opportunities…
9 intern networking lunches
3 EPDC events
14 tours of Eastman facilities
9 interviews with TTU ME grads
11 supply lunch-and-learns
Relevant Quote: Thought I’d be in ENGR found out in Procurement was concerned and upset (boring, uneducational, wouldn’t further myself as ENGR) Quickly discovered I was wrong Had amazing time and learned a ton (More “well-rounded” engineer) Like technical side better (maybe not do Supply Chain permanently), but enjoyed my time so THANKS
