5. Washing Hands: Courage Where am I washing
my hands when I should be involved? Is there
anywhere today where the Lord’s church is washing
its hands regarding issues, injustices, abuse,
poverty, addictions?
6. Nails: Forgiveness My sins are forgiven
because of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.
Nails were driven through his hands and feet but as
been said many many times- Nails did not hold him
on the cross- his love for us did. He wanted us to
have forgiveness through him.
7. Rooster: Fear Too many times we are better at
crowing our fears than communicating our faith.
8. Thorns: King King: Mocked him as king, the
thorns were a mockery, they put a royal robe on him
and a staff in his hand and mocked him and beat
him. The sign on the Cross “King of the Jews” was a
mockery. But the sign was true. He is King of King
and Lord of lords.
Incidentally, have you noticed that in our society we
cannot make fun of religions. However, Christianity
and Jesus are made fun of quite often.
The crown of thorns on his head were put there in
mockery but it says that in heaven, everyone will lay
down whatever crowns they wore on this earth and
lay them at his feet. He is king of king and lords of
lords and every knee in heaven on earth, and under

3. the earth will bow to him and confess his name.
9. Empty Tomb: Power
Philip Yancey: On the cross Jesus absorbed the worst
of what Earth has to offer, a convergence of evil and
death in an event of profound injustice.
Resurrection Sunday gave a sure and certain sign of
contradiction, demonstrating that nothing can
withstand the healing force of a loving God.
We live out our days aware of the redemptive power
of suffering while awaiting the restoration power of
creation made new.
10. Nail Scarred Hands: Eternal Life
Seeing is believing Thomas: Doubting Thomas:

believed Thomas needed proof: My Lord and My
God.
Jesus: blessed to believe without seeing. But
Thomas was blessed as well for his belief. Nail
scarred hands: Seeing is believing- Believing is
seeing.
*** Nail scarred hands: Resurrection- Eternal
life. The same power that God used to raise Jesus
from the dead is what he uses to raise us up into
eternal life.

of Jesus Christ I think about how no one is past
redemption. All of us have a chance, no matter what
we have done or where we have been, to change our
minds, hearts, and behavior, and to follow Jesus who
says to us, Follow me.
If we say yes, we can be sure that a good and
beautiful day awaits us. And when we string those
days together into months, years, and decades, we
will have lived a good and beautiful life.
And that life is destined to echo a benediction of love
all of eternity to hear.
