1. The following works shall not be
measured separately
• Setting out works, profiles, etc;
• Site clearance, such as cleaning grass and vegetation;
• Unauthorized bettering or benching of excavation;
• Forming ( or leaving ) ‘dead men’ or ‘tell-tales’in borrow
pits and their removal after measurements;
• Forming ( or leaving ) steps in sides of deep
• excavation and their removal after measurements;
• Excavation for insertion of planking and strutting;
• Unless otherwise specified, removing slips or falls in
excavations;
• Bailing out or pumping of water in excavation from rains;
2. • Bailing out or pumping of water in excavation
from sub-soil water when measured under
2.5(a) of sub section; and
• Slinging or supporting pipes, electric cables,
etc, met during excavation.
3. • All excavation shall be measured in successive
stages of 1.5 m stating the commencing level.
This shall not apply to cases where no lift is
involved as in hillside cutting.
• All excavation shall generally be described as
‘excavate and get out’. Getting out shall include
throwing the excavated earth at least one metre
or l/3 depth of excavation whichever is more
clear of the edge of excavation
