This is the presentation I made to the European Association of Horse Assisted Education in 2008. My intention was to honour cognitive learning but also bring learning by doing or "Limbic Learning" into the equation.
Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) is a teaching method developed by Soma Mukhopadhyay to teach her non-verbal autistic son to communicate. It involves constant engagement between a teacher and student using paper, pencil, and an alphabet board. The teacher asks fast-paced questions to keep the student focused on the task. RPM works to overcome challenges autistic learners face in processing multiple senses at once by breaking down communication into focused steps of choosing letters to spell words through pointing. Soma went on to create the organization HALO to promote RPM for autistic children.

It involves a teacher keeping a student constantly engaged through fast-paced questioning while using paper, pencil, or an alphabet board. The method works to overcome processing difficulties experienced by autistic learners by first identifying their best learning channels, then teaching motor skills to allow them to answer questions by pointing or picking up letters. More information can be found on the HALO website which Soma created to promote RPM.

Thinking involves mental processes like cognition, problem solving, and decision making. There are different types of thinking including concepts, algorithms, heuristics, and insight. Concepts are mental groupings, algorithms are logical procedures, heuristics are quick rules of thumb, and insight is a sudden realization. Thinking can be impacted by biases, fixedness, and framing effects.
Memory allows people to store experiences and recall them later. There are several types of memory including short-term and long-term memory. The Atkinson-Shiffrin model proposes that information is first processed through sensory memory before being transferred to short-term memory where it is held for around 20 seconds, after which it may be transferred to long-term memory for indefinite storage. Effective memorization techniques include repetition, distributed practice, association, and mnemonics.
Rebecca White has extensive experience in sales, operations, project management, and process improvement across multiple industries. She has a history of successfully managing projects involving ERP, CRM, IT, HR, and other systems. Her skills include portfolio management, project prioritization, resource allocation, and ensuring transparency and team results.
The document discusses landscape design and maintenance services provided by three different companies - AmazingScapes Landscape Management Company, Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, and Palo Verde Landscape Design Studio. AmazingScapes is mentioned the most and provides landscape management. Ten Eyck focuses on landscape architecture. Palo Verde offers landscape design studio services.

The document discusses several theories of learning, including:
1) Behaviorist theories proposed by Pavlov, Watson, and Skinner which view learning as stimulus-response associations that are reinforced through repetition.
2) Constructivist theories which see learning as an active process where learners construct new understanding based on their existing knowledge and experiences.
3) Social constructivism and theorists like Vygotsky who emphasized that learning occurs through social interaction and collaboration with others.
4) Evidence from cognitive development and neuroscience that supports constructivist and social constructivist views of learning from an early age.
This document outlines an agenda for a workshop on learning skills and styles. The workshop will cover how people learn best based on their learning style, which can be sequential, random, or balanced. It will also discuss the three primary sensory modes of learning: visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic. Attendees will complete activities to identify their own preferred learning styles and will learn corresponding study strategies to enhance their learning. The goal is for participants to become actively engaged in the learning process.
The document discusses the brain and learning. It describes the triune brain model, which consists of the reptilian brain, primitive mammalian brain, and modern mammalian brain. The reptilian brain focuses on basic needs, the primitive brain processes emotions, and the modern brain facilitates higher-level thinking and learning. Strategies are provided to optimize learning, such as engaging both brain hemispheres, ensuring comfort, and checking learner understanding. The brain's role in attention, memory, and learning is multi-faceted, and facilitators should understand cognitive styles and use varied techniques.
Multiple Intelligence theory revolutionized the teaching learning process as well as understanding self and others.
MI by Dr. Howard Gardner helps teachers, Parents, HR managers and individuals to understand their own self as well as others in order to become more productive human being and society.
This document discusses brain dominance and its implications for learning and tutoring. It explains that most people have a dominant side of the brain - either left or right - that influences their preferred learning styles. The left brain favors logical, sequential thinking while the right brain is more visual and intuitive. Stress can also impact learning by causing the brain to use different memory systems. The document provides tips for tutors to incorporate understanding of brain dominance into their sessions, such as using step-by-step problems for left-brain learners and diagrams/visuals for right-brain learners. It encourages tutors to apply diverse strategies to engage both brain hemispheres.
The document discusses various techniques and principles for effective instruction and learning. It covers ideas from Confucius and Lao-Tzu on learning through experience versus being told. It then defines concepts like education, training, learning and teaching. It outlines rules of learning and forgetting as well as principles like readiness, exercise, effect, primacy, intensity and recency. It discusses different learning styles, types of knowledge, skills and attitudes. It also covers the learning process, training methods, communication skills, instructional aids and evaluating learning.
To impart the individual participant an understanding of psychological and teaching factors which have an influence on learning with focus on the cooperation between trainees and instructors, to assess the qualifications required of the individual instructor to impart to his trainees the experience, proficiency and attitudes which are of importance to the trainees' work.

This document lists the members of Group 6 and outlines how a residential management course differs from conventional business schools. It focuses on core content, values, culture, continuous learning and evaluation, and developing students into better individuals. The document discusses challenges students may face and how to cope through focus, participation, planning, physical/mental fitness. It lists 5 qualities students must possess: efforts like a crow, concentration like a crane, alertness like a dog, sacrificing home, and eating little. The document provides tips for managing time efficiently through mindset, equitable work distribution, and preparation/revision. It includes two quotes about management, leadership, and ingenuity.
This document discusses the results of three learning style inventories taken by the author. The inventories showed a fairly even distribution between visual and tactile/kinesthetic styles, with approximately 8% auditory. Characteristics of each learning style are provided, with visual learners preferring observation over action, auditory learners enjoying talking and music, and kinesthetic learners liking physical activities and touch. The author's class is summarized as having a similar fairly even distribution between visual and tactile/kinesthetic styles, with around 8% auditory.
This document provides an overview of brain-based learning and teaching. It begins by acknowledging that brain science is continually evolving and outlines some key principles of brain-based learning, including that it is student-centered, focuses on how learning makes students feel, and occurs best when students are enthusiastic and not stressed. It then discusses various parts of the brain and their functions, how the brain determines importance through emotion and attention, and outlines twelve principles of brain-based teaching related to how the brain processes information in parallel, engages the entire body, develops uniquely, perceives wholes and parts simultaneously, involves conscious and unconscious processes, searches for meaning, is impacted by emotions, learns through appropriate challenge, patterns information, organizes memory in different
