1) The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is encouraging local gardeners to donate extra produce from their gardens to help address rising food insecurity in the region.
2) In 2011, over 1.3 million requests for food were received through the Food Bank's network.
3) Gardeners are asked to plant an extra row of crops and donate the harvest to local food pantries or directly to the Food Bank. Popular items to donate include beans, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, onions, peppers, squash, and tomatoes.
