Learning Quarter Notes and Eighth Notes Erica Warner
For Your Viewing Pleasures… Every drum set groove is made up of quarter notes or subdivisions of quarter notes.  The most common rhythms played my drum set players are quarter notes and eight notes.
Quarter Notes ,[object Object]
You would count quarter notes as 1, 2, 3, 4.,[object Object]
One quarter note rest is the same length as one quarter note,[object Object]
Eighth Notes Eighth notes are half as long as quarter notes.  Therefore, two eight notes make up 1 quarter note The most common way to count eighth notes is, “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and”
Snare Example: This example shows how quarter notes and eighth notes fit together. You would count this example: 1  2  3  4  1&  2&  3&  4& 1  2&  3  4&  1&  2&  3&  4
