Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be "born again" through faith in Jesus in order to see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus, not understanding this spiritual concept, asks how one can be born a second time physically. Jesus explains that flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit, and one must be born of the Spirit. Only through faith in Jesus, who will be "lifted up" like the serpent in the wilderness, can one be saved and have eternal life, as God loved the world so much that he gave his Son as the cure for sin and its consequences.
