DR. FAUSTINO BERNADETT RECEIVED HISPANIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP AWARD
1. DR. FAUSTINO BERNADETT
RECEIVED HISPANIC HEALTH
LEADERSHIP AWARD
Dr. Bernadett was the proud recipient of the Hispanic Health Leadership
Award From the National Hispanic Health Foundation in 2015. It was given in
recognition of the esteemed doctor’s efforts to improve the health of Hispanics
and other undeserved populations within California. The leadership award
goes to one individual each year who has shown exemplary efforts to improve
the Hispanic community. He proudly accepted the award at a ceremony and
scholarship gala at which several leaders in the community were at
attendance.
2. The goal of the National Hispanic Health Foundation is to improve the health
of Hispanics and the underserved, eliminate health disparities by supporting
Hispanic researchers and Hispanic health-services research, and increase
workforce diversity. The foundation presents the Hispanic Health Leadership
Award to "outstanding individuals who have served in significant leadership
roles and have improved the health of Hispanics and other underserved
populations."
No Stranger to Helping the
Underprivileged
Dr. Bernadett has a long history of serving the underprivileged and professing
his love for the community. He is a retired pain management physician from
Long Beach, CA who, together with his wife Martha, founded The Molina
Foundation in 2004. She is the President and CEO, and he is Vice President
and Treasurer, both leading this national nonprofit organization that reduces
disparities in access to education and health.
The Molina Foundation has worked with more than 2,500 organizations and
schools, donating more than 5.5 million books, as well as hosting workshops
and programs for educators and families. Working hand-in-hand with Hispanic
community-based organizations, The Molina Foundation partners with
preschool programs, clinics, churches, schools, family service organizations,
and civic organizations that serve low-income and at-risk families.
In particular, The Molina Foundation’s program Book Buddies distributes
new books to community agencies serving underprivileged children and
families.
Many of The Molina Foundation programs work with immigrant and limited
English proficient families. Dr. Bernadett’s own father ran a successful
practice as the only Spanish-speaking family doctor in Chico, California. His
dad (a family physician who was at times paid in tamales), also volunteered
his services to Mexico’s low-income patients, spurring a dedication in his son
Tino to the education of physicians who care for the underserved. Tino and
his wife have also donated to UCSF programs that benefit underserved
communities, as well as to the Smithsonian Latino Center.
3. In addition, the Consumers’ Research Council of America named Dr. Faustino
“Tino” Bernadett to its list of America’s Top Physicians in Pain Management.
He was given this award due to his education, years in practice, and
affiliations with professional associations and organizations.
As you can see, Dr. Bernadett has selflessly dedicated his life to helping
others, so it’s no surprise he would receive the Hispanic Health Leadership
Award From the National Hispanic Health Foundation.
