•Dowry, the money, goods, or
estate that a woman brings to her
husband.
•Dowry is the process of
transferring the father's property
to the daughter at the time of her
marriage.

4. DOWRY SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
• The federal government last
year proposed bridal restriction
act of 1976 in order to limit
dowries.
• According to the bill, the
maximum amount to be given to
the bride as her dowry may not
be more than four tola gold.

• It is found that 95% of marriages in every region of
pakistan involve the transfer of dowry.
• In pakistan there are 2000 dowry-related deaths per
year, these women died from dowry related violence.
• Pakistan’s dowry and marriage gifts (restriction)
bill, 2008, while the total value of bridal gifts is
limited to pkr 50,000.
• Survey in January 2017 by Gallup Pakistan showed
that 56 percent still expects the girl to bring dowry.
