Donate Life Florida and Supreme Clientele Travel work together to educate the public about organ and tissue donation. Their goal is to empower people to save lives through donation of organs, tissue, blood, and bone marrow. Donate Life Florida supports collaborative educational campaigns and projects across Florida to increase awareness of donation. Supreme Clientele Travel donates a portion of its commissions to support Donate Life Florida's efforts and distributes donation information to raise awareness.

Kidney Organ Transplants account for the majority of our organ transplant shortages in America; live organ donation is the obvious solution...we don't need a medical miracle to make it happen--we simply need to educate and motivate the masses to support changing our archaic 30 year-old 1984 law so that we make it affordable for anyone who desires to become a living kidney organ transplant donor. University of Michigan Taubman Health Sciences Library

For the past two years libraries across Michigan participated in a simple and effective campaign to educate patrons about organ, tissue, and eye donation and offer the opportunity to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. This effort was originally spearheaded in 2010 by the University of Michigan's Taubman Health Sciences Library, but has expanded to include libraries on several university campuses across the state; University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses, along with libraries at Eastern Michigan University, and Grand Valley State University. The 2011 collaborative effort resulted in registering 414 new organ donors, reaching over 1500 visitors with information on organ donation and registration information. More than 95% of Americans support organ, tissue and eye donation. In Michigan, only 34% of adults have joined the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, far lower than the 43% average nationwide! That discrepancy is largely due to state residents not knowing how to properly sign up. Michigan Libraries for Life helps to address that informational need. We are excited to bring this life-saving event back in 2012, expanding to include many more public, academic, and special libraries. This year’s 2-day drive will start on Tuesday, October 2nd and run through Wednesday, October 3rd. Participating libraries are welcome to join the effort for as many hours as they are able to staff a registration table, from 2 hours to 2 days. World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14th every year to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and to thank blood donors for their life-saving contributions. It serves as an opportunity to encourage more people to donate blood and to recognize the individuals who donate blood regularly without any monetary compensation. The day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to promote the availability and safety of blood and blood products for patients in need. The theme for World Blood Donor Day varies each year, focusing on different aspects of blood donation. It aims to highlight the significant role of voluntary blood donors in saving lives and improving health care systems. Numerous events and activities are organized worldwide to celebrate this day, including blood donation drives, awareness campaigns, educational programs, and public discussions.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence. The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth. Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration. The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority. Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages. Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
