landing you will walk
across the runway to a
small processing area. The
baggage carousel is
approximately 10 feet long
so be prepared to wait for

10. Wildlife
Dominica is home to all
kinds of animals. On the
land and in the sea, you
see something new every
day. You should know
that there are no
poisonous animals here,
nothing worse than a
bumble bee. No sharks in
the sea either. Very wild
but not so dangerous.

Red Rock is exactly what it
sounds like, a really big
rock that is red. Watch
your step, though. Sheer
cliffs and unsure footing
could end your trip early!
The best part of this spot
is Red Rock Haven
restaurant. My favorite
place in the entire world
to eat and hang out.

Located in Cabrits
National Park, Fort
Shirley was built on
the North end of
Dominica to help
defend the island.
The National Park
features incredible
walking trails and
wildlife.

52. Indian River
One of the locations
where Pirates of the
Caribbean was filmed,
this river is a nice
destination. Gasoline
motors are forbidden
here so you will be in a
small boat powered by
the oars of your local
guide. Dynamite rum
punch is your reward for
finishing the trip.

Practically all you can eat

A low key beach spot
with a few small
restaurants. Lots of
friendly locals hang
out after fishing all
day. They repair nets
and exchange stories
about the sea. Swim,
sunbath, play
volleyball then relax
over amazing local
cuisine.

The capital city is
home to the port
where cruise ships
dock. It is the most
populated city center
in the country. Open
air markets, historical
sites and KFC are the
main points of
interest in Roseau.

At the Southernmost tip of
Dominica is where you will
find Scotts Head. It is a tiny
strip of land that separates
the Atlantic Ocean from the
Caribbean Sea. The hike to
the top can be grueling in
the hot sun but the view
from the top is worth every
ounce of sweat. Seriously
though, bring water!

Springs
The ground bubbles
with gas that smells
like rotten eggs. It’s a
wild sight to see.
Bring an extra pair of
shoes for this trip. A
short hike on rough
trails isn’t as bad as
the lack of platforms
to stand on. You will
be right in the muck!

Deep in the rainforest you
will find a trail that leads
to Emerald Pool. Bring
your swimming trunks if
you want to take a dip in
the cool water. You will
find freshwater shrimp
darting in and out of the
rocks around the pool.
Look up and you can see
the Sisserou Parrot flying
above.

147. Carib Territory

Dominica is home to the
last native Carib Indians in
the world. They inhabit
the Carib Territory.
Largely relying on tourist
dollars they still remain
true to their heritage.
They make all sorts of
products by hand and
entertain with ceremonial
dance performances.

If you are up for a fun day
trip you can find lots of
catamarans for charter.
We left from Portsmouth
and made the trip in a
few hours. We returned
the same day. Day
charters can be had for as
little as $100/person
depending on your group
