A holistic perspective requires an individual to have an open mindset and ability to get the general sense or impression regarding a situation. PARTIAL THINKING • focuses on specific aspects of a situation. - Philos- Sophia From this word PHILOSOPHY MEANS THE LOVE OF WISDOM This study uses HUMAN REASONS to investigate the ultimate causes and principles which govern our thinks. It is a quest for KNOWLEDGE AND TRUTH . From the time that we started to question, we already philosophize. We seek answers to our questions which makes us also questions our answer. It’s a never-ending questioning until we find the truth. PHILOSOPHERS USE SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY in the investigation and analysis of things so, we will understand these better as we go along to our succeeding lessons.
- In a broad sense, WISDOM is still the goal of philosophy. PHILO is defined as…… So under this definition, 4 things are to be considered. (Next slide
- Science. It is called science because the investigation is systematic. It follows certain steps, or it employs certain procedure. In other words. It is an organized body of knowledge just like any other science. NATURAL light of Reason. Philo investigate things, not by using any other lab instrument or tools, neither based on supernatural revelation, otherwise it becomes theology(study of the nature of God. Religious belief); instead, philosophers uses his capacity to think simply, human reason alone or the so-called unaided reason. JUST LOGIC AND CRITICAL THINKING. STUDY OF ALL THINGS. This sets the distinction between philo from other sciences. IT IS MULTI DIMENSIONAL FIRST CAUSE OR HIGHEST PRINCIPLE. A principle is that from which something proceeds in any manner whatsoever. 1. Whatever is is, and watever is not is not. Evrything is its own being, and not being is not being. 2. It is impossible for a thing to be and not to be at the same time.and at the same respect. 3. A thing is either is or is not. There is no middle ground possible. 4. Nothing exist without a sufficient reason for its being and existence.
- Since philo is a broad body of knowledge, it is divided into branches depending on the aspect of life and phenomena. Metaphysics- deals with questions regarding reality and existence.beyond physical.
- EPISTE- is a study of knowledge that investigates the origin, structure, methods and integrity of knowledge.

- Holistic- whole, big pic, total, complete, all aspects Partial- specific, part of whole, particular not complete. Thinking holistically is the opposite of analyzing something, which involves breaking down a larger system into its details . A holistic view gives rise to a more appreciative perspective about life, as we are able to look at life in its totality. Example: doctor; partial- patient just ask about physical symptoms--- holistic- will try to dig deeper for background like asking the lifestyle of the patient. If she is stress or living in sedentary life. QUESTION: what do you think, is the perspective being used in philosophy? HOLISTIC- because, in the process of doing philosophy, it is very important to understand the holistic perspective that is looking at all sides of the problem before making a conclusion. In the situation of a person involving in a scandal? How do you react about it? Do you condemn them abruptly?or you usually reserve your judgement until you get all the facts? If you were to use holistic perspective, which of the 2 will be you reaction? So, choosing holistic perspective, its not only encourages us to think critically but rather it helps us to be more considerate in dealing with others.

- Philosophical reflection is when one, Examines one’s thoughts, feelings actions, and evaluate his or her experience first before making any related action. So in reflection, where taking to account in holistic perspective. Why do we need to reflect? Whats the use? Is it important? Reflection is vital in ensuring that our actions and decisions are well thought out and are done with due regard for their implications and consequences on ourselves, others, and our surroundings. Doing Philosophy enables a person to engage in critical analysis and interpretation of concepts, definitions, arguments, and problems. Doing Philosophy also improves problem-solving and decision making. The ability to analyze a problem or dilemma, identify the significant aspects, and come up with alternative solutions is an important skill learned through philosophy. In the process of doing philosophy, it is critical to have a holistic point of view-the perception of looking at all aspects of a situation first before making a conclusion. Wisdom as it refers to a person’s ability to apply knowledge to daily life particularly in making sound choices and judgment is the intended product of philosophizing. Finally, knowledge of Philosophy can contribute to self-development.
- Reflection helps us to understand ourselves as well as our action better. When we reflect. We can judge whether our actions or decisions are reasonable or not.
