Home visits are one hour long. Cancellation fee under 24 hours is $15.
Homework assignments are given at the end of the visit. It is recommended that everyone in the household dedicate at
least 15 minutes a day working with the dog one on one. Otherwise the home visits won’t be of value. Dog training is more
about training the owners then it is about training to dog.
Basic Commands
Heel – Stays to the left and doesn’t pull on lead at all.
Sit – Sit.
Sit, Wait – Stays in seated position until ‘O.K.’ command is given.
Down, Stay – Stays in down position until ‘O.K.’ command is given.
Wait – Stay in whatever last command position was.
Down – Lay down.
Off – Get off the furniture
Bring It Here – Fetching a toy or bone and bringing it to you.
Out – Drop whatever is in your mouth.
Drop It – Same as ‘Out’.
O.K. – Release command.
No Bark – If dog barks when people are by the house or dog hears noise you should call him to come, He should
only give one or two warning barks and then come find you.
No Bite – No nibbles at all on people or leash.
No – Good general command.
In The House – Every time dog is outside we say “in the house” on our way in.
Go Potty – You know what this one is for.
Come – Come to you.
Good Doggy – Whenever dog is good. Never say dog’s name when he is bad. Dog’s name is always a good
thing.
Wait at Doors – Dog should always wait for you to go through door first.
Wait at Curbs – Dog should always wait for you to walk off curb first, leading with left leg.
That’s Enough – No more playing.
Go On – Leave you alone.
Paw – Give your paw.
Where’s your bone/ball? – Go find your toy.
Hurry –
Move – Don’t step over dog, force dog to move out of your way.
Upstairs – Go upstairs.
Downstairs – Go downstairs.
Left turn – Used when going for a walk.
Right turn – Used when going for a walk.

Techniques
• No human food ever.
• Treats not used as rewards during training.
• Dog not allowed on furniture, not allowed in bed.
• Dog always must sit before being petted.
• Don’t walk over dog, give him the ‘move’ command to achieve dominance.
• Leave choke collar and leash on dog while in the house.
• Regular meal times (one or two), dog must be given ‘O.K.’ command before eating. Leave food down for only 20
minutes, then empty dish and put it back in feeding spot.
• No playing tug-o-war with dog.
• No wrestling with dog.
• May grab dog by scruff of neck, if dog doesn’t yelp you didn’t grab firm enough.
• No chewing on anything but his bones.
• Only give command once then force dog to do it.
• Try and set dog up to do the wrong thing, then correct him.
• When using ‘No’ command don’t use the dogs name. Dog should always have a positive association with his
name.
• Alpha dog position including pulling tail, ears, paws, etc.

• Choke collar (chain link or cloth, no spikes) only to be on dog when training

Examples of Homework
Week 1: Practice making dog wait to go through door until after you do. Practice making the dog move when you
walk in his path. Practice making dog wait until given the ‘O.K.’ command before eating. Practice putting
dog in alpha position. Keep leash and collar on him in the house for at least 2 hours a day.
Week 2: Have dog sit/wait for 5 minutes at a time and alternate with down/wait for 5 minutes. Continue for 20
minutes. Eventually dog should work up to 30 minutes at a time. This is a good exercise to do while
watching television. Practice come and sit commands. Practice heel and sit commands. Practice proper
treat feeding.
Week 3: Practice down and return to sit commands. Make eye contact when giving commands. Only give
command once, then force dog to do command and accompany with a firm ‘No.’ Practice heel and wait
commands while walking. Make dog wait at all curbs. Always lead off curb with left leg.
