This reports highlight the social inclusion issues that are likely
to arise in nigeria, i have also stated a few recommendation.
This report is targeted to the federal government of Nigeria
with the hope that future infrastructure protects will be
inclusive and affordable for all.

2. Defining the problem
• Transport infrastructure and services are a means to improve the
wellbeing of people by facilitating access to enonomic and social
benefits, and thus should be designed to best meet the needs of
men and women in ways that are equitable, affordable and
responsive to all groups. Transport infrastructure and services are
often incorrectly considered "gender neutral", it is assumed that
transport projects equally benefits men and women and there is
no significant difference in their travel patterns, modes of
transport access, and utilization of transport infrastructure and
services. In fact, mobility is experienced differently by men and
women, as they use different modes of transport for different
purposes and in different gender related roles.

3. • Gender dimensions of transport becomes more
evident when transport investment are viewed in
terms of enabling the mobility of people for different
purposes and needs, and by different modes- which
are experienced differently by women and men, girls
and boys - rather than in terms of mere investment in
hard infrastructure that equally benefits all social
groups.

workers(NURTW) protesting for oppressing tricycle
operators.

5. • Restriction on access to education due to poor
transport infrastructure project. The bad road
condition in Nigeria is likely to deprive people in
the rural areas from accessing quality education

Men are likely to use planes for travel while women
are left to board public buses.

7. RECOMMENDATIONS
• By understanding the differenciated ways women and
men benefits from, contribute to, and experience
modes of transports, gov't can leverage on insights to
maximize profits while better sharing risks and
benefits across the communities. Gender smart
solutions, i.e solutions that achieve overall business
objectives and closing relevant gender gaps in the
process, present an opportunity for to government to
partner for better transport solutions.

• Human endowment gaps - health, education, social
protection gaps
• Removing constraints for more and better jobs
• Removing barriers to women's ownership and
control of assets
• Enhancing women's voice and agency, engaging
men and boys

9. • Some gender benefits to consider and pursue are;
• 1. Gender equal participation in planning and
decision -making related to transport projects.
• 2. Employment for women and men during
construction and routine maintenance
• 3. Training for women to benefit from transport
related ancillary work (e.g vehicle repairs)
• 4. Gender capacity building for transport authorities
and project management.

• If the nigerian government works towards the
implementation of the above recommendations,
then there will an improved mobilility for men and
women.
