Title: A remarkable life as a Malaysian.
Actresses: Hannah (H), Ilma (I), Amni (A)and Rafidah (R) (5-7 minutes )
Scene 1: Ride a bike with a flag
Narrator/ voice: August. It’s the independence month for Malaysian. Malaysia is our pride
country. A proud one and definitely our remarkable nation.
Scene 2: At the surau’s bench -Hannah is looking at the flag, Rafidah and Amni are
checking the phone and Ilma is reading.
H: Eh guys, it’s August right?
I: Yeah, why are you asking?
H: ..grin… Just asking. It’s the month of our country’s independence day. Merdeka month.
What do you think about Merdeka actually? *looking at Ilma
I: Well, if you are asking me, I would say… I’m enjoying myself because we’ve got to do
everything freely without being worried. But….with the permission of our parents, of course!
A: We can ride our bikes around, playing at each other houses, and do many activities
together. Oh yeah, remember the time we’ve been chased by the goose? Grin.. I enjoyed that
the most! We laughed our hearts out. We really enjoying ourselves. That’s mean freedom.
*need to record riding bikes, playing masak2, playing teng2, playing handphones,
running fast-heads turn around-chased by a goose, laughing all heart out.
Scene 3: Camera focusing on Rafidah.( she’s looking at the phone in Scene 1 & 2).
Same place, at surau’s bench.
R: Still, freedom doesn’t mean that we can go overboard. We can’t just do whatever we want.
We need to respect other people’s opinions and belongings.
I: Yeah, just like when we wanted to eat the fruit from Mak Jah’s tree. We didn’t simply take it.
We asked her first. * yup..ehem..nodded* Well, what about you Hannah, what’s your take on
independence day?
H: Well, I’m not sure Ilma. I think, I just love hanging out with you guys. *the rest smile.. ‘we
too’ mouth gesture. Just like we do today. Maybe, having the privileged to get free
education is already a remarkable to me. Nobody disallowed us to go to school. And we can
join many activities at school.
I: Yup, you are sure an active girl, Hannah. You’ve just finished your chess tournament right?
Oh, I love being at school. I love reading all the books at the library.
R: Yeah, right. You are the bookworm girl, aren’t you?
I: How about you, tech girl? I bet you love the country for being modern right?
R: I love technology, and so does everyone else. But being modern, doesn’t mean that I hate
our traditions. Like here, we live in this town, it’s full of traditional design houses, Malay
customs and yet we have the access to the other world through modernization, the internet.
It’s an easy way to connect to everyone. Oh, by the way, can anyone share data with me? I’m
about to order food. *the rest says: Oh… Rafidahhhh….
A: Even your name is traditional enough..
*need to record plucking some fruits.. asking from madam, study in the class, reading
books, play chess, playing handphones, video around traditional houses, the kampung
Scene 4: Ilma is reading the book again. Camera focusing on four of them
Same place, at surau’s bench.
H: Owh, talk about food. I’m hungry. What are you going to order Rafidah?
R: shrugged…
A: Ahhhh..food.. * camera focusing on Amni That’s my all time favourite as Malaysian. We
have variety of food to choose. From one thing to another. From Malay, Indian and Chinese
cuisine. We also have the whole world taste around our country and it is easy to order too!.
Just click and order.
H: You’re right Amni. Not to mention, we also have many natural resources like gas, palm oil,
water and even our soil is fertile. Most of the trees can bear fruits or producing food to us.
I: We also get sun and rain all year around. It helps our farmers to grow the crops. Now, we
can even use the solar energy at home and resell it to energy to gain income.
R: Really? That’s new to me.
*azan sound
R: Owh, It’s azan already. I think I need to get back. You see, as A Malaysian, we also get to
practice our religious and belief freely. *walk towards the bike
Amni and Ilma also walk towards the bike
R: Ok, see you all tomorrow at school. * ride away
H: See you later, alligator. But wait! How about the food? Owhhhhhhhhh
Thank you for watching this mini documentary. I hope that all of you enjoy the video.
