The owner of a 2012 Mercedes-Benz A160 with about 30,000 km was unable to start the car with the keys. Maintenance personnel examined the vehicle and found that the ignition switch, instrument lights, and steering wheel unlock sound were not working. Testing with an OBD2 scanner found no fault codes. Examining the ignition switch control unit found that one of the keys was weakened and the unit needed to be reprogrammed, which then allowed both keys to successfully start the car and all features to work normally.
