• UK trade association for manufacturers of decorative paints,
printing inks, industrial & powder coatings & wallcoverings
• 130 members, 95% of market + 60 associate members
• Widely consulted by government, industry & the general public

What do we do?
• Regulatory affairs support
• Lobbying at UK and EU level
• Provide an interface with the public and press
• Presenting the industry’s position
• Promoting the industry’s interests
• Business support including statistics service
• Training for the industry
• Forum for legitimate industry discussions

Antifouling Paints…
• are hazardous
• contain chemicals which reduce / prevent fouling
• fall under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR)
• need to undergo approval in 2017-19
• must be used carefully, with protection (PPE)
• can damage the environment (waste paint, scrapings etc.)
• are used safely by DIY-ers in the UK (our survey last year)

• Autumn 2015, results published ….>
• 2432 boat owners took part – astounding!
• 95% apply antifouling paint themselves
• 97% use gloves
• > 90% eye protection & overalls
• Strong evidence for safe use

- providing a safe and secure location for AF painting
- providing clear guidance to DIY-ers regarding disposal

- ensuring that tri-fold leaflets are in chandleries etc.
