I want the discussion to focus on science, not on personal beliefs. This is a science class, not a theology class. Remember, for us to examine a scientific idea we must work in the realm of the physical, the measurable, and the perceivable. It is OK to comment on how Darwin struggled with the persecution of the church and how that still occurs today, however, I do not want a discussion, description, or debate on your personal beliefs. This is not meant to insult anyone's personal beliefs, it is just difficult to debate your beliefs on this discussion board. One way to focus your thoughts is to type them in a word processing program and then later cut- and-paste them into the Discussion posting. This allows you time to think about what you want to say and to save your response. Finally, if you want to debate anything, you must provide literature citations or references for your argument - we are interested in facts and data - not opinions - no exceptions. Here is one of the students comment that you have to respons to it with at least 200 words : I found this video about Darwin very interesting. I’ve never really thought much of evolution, but watching this made me more aware and more interested in it. Evolution is the process in which different living organisms have changed, or evolved, to be what they are today. Darwin collected different animal species, but the one that stood out most to me were the finches. As they studied these birds they learned that all of them were finches and that all of them had their similarities, yet all of them were different. Darwin believed that they all came from the same ancestors, and that they had slowly adapted to their own habitats over time, which made them different from one another. Darwin noticed this in all of his findings. Darwin was a man that no matter what anyone said or thought he kept studying, and kept writing his book even though he could get in trouble by the church for his beliefs. Darwin believed it was science, not God that had made this happen. But everyone he told thought he was crazy. There were many, many people who.

Evolution Is Philosophy, Not Science
Greg shows that Darwinism is driven by philosophy more than science.
I'm mystified by the opening sentence of an article in Friday's Union Tribune (October 25, 1996).
It says, "In his most comprehensive statement yet on evolution, Pope John Paul II insisted that
faith and science can co-exist."
So far, so good. I agree with the Pope wholeheartedly on this first point. If you heard my opening
address at our conference on Science and Faith, you'd know why I think they can co-exist if they
are properly defined. (How science and faith are defined is an important part of answering the
question.)
I part ways with the Pope in his next statement. He said that "Charles Darwin's theories are
sound as long as they take into account that creation was the work of God."
That's an odd thing to say, it seems to me. I mean no disrespect here at all to Pope John Paul II.
But doesn't that strike you as odd? It seems to me that Charles Darwin's theories--scientific
theories, theories about the origins and development of things--are either sound or not sound. If
they're not sound, you can't baptize them by bringing God into the picture and miraculously
make them sound. And if they are sound in themselves, then you don't need to add God to make
them work, do you? It's already doing fine on its own. Which is the point of evolution: mother
nature without father God.
I don't think evolution works at all. I don't think Charles Darwin's theories are sound, so I'm not
in the least bit tempted to baptize them with some form of theistic evolution.
By definition, evolution offered an explanation for how things got to be the way they are without
God (I'm referring to what's known as the "general theory of evolution"). This is why it made
such a splash. Do you think that if God could be worked into the evolutionary picture, then
evolution would have taken off the way it did? Of course not.
Richard Dawkins, author of The Blind Watchmaker and one of the world's preeminent
evolutionists, was right when he said that Darwin made the world safe for atheism. But if
Darwinism can be easily baptized with theism, how can it be that Darwin made the world safe
for atheism? It's precisely because evolution seemed to explain things that used to require the
existence of God to explain them that Darwinism became so popular and accepted within ten to
fifteen years after Origin of Species was published in 1859. It's precisely because God is out of
the picture that evolution is so appealing.
When you listen to evolutionists like Harvard paleontologist Stephen J. Gould, he's very willing
to admit you can believe in God and also be an evolutionist. No problem. But that doesn't mean
Gould approves of theistic evolution. Gould means that plenty of his friends believe in God, but
their belief in God is a religious thing they do in their closets, inside their homes and behind the
closed doors o.

While I don't have a subject area I teach, I appreciate learning about how Eastern principles can be incorporated constructively into Western education. Evolution Is Philosophy, Not Science
Greg shows that Darwinism is driven by philosophy more than science.
I'm mystified by the opening sentence of an article in Friday's Union Tribune (October 25, 1996).
It says, "In his most comprehensive statement yet on evolution, Pope John Paul II insisted that
faith and science can co-exist."
So far, so good. I agree with the Pope wholeheartedly on this first point. If you heard my opening
address at our conference on Science and Faith, you'd know why I think they can co-exist if they
are properly defined. (How science and faith are defined is an important part of answering the
question.)
I part ways with the Pope in his next statement. He said that "Charles Darwin's theories are
sound as long as they take into account that creation was the work of God."
That's an odd thing to say, it seems to me. I mean no disrespect here at all to Pope John Paul II.
But doesn't that strike you as odd? It seems to me that Charles Darwin's theories--scientific
theories, theories about the origins and development of things--are either sound or not sound. If
they're not sound, you can't baptize them by bringing God into the picture and miraculously
make them sound. And if they are sound in themselves, then you don't need to add God to make
them work, do you? It's already doing fine on its own. Which is the point of evolution: mother
nature without father God.
I don't think evolution works at all. I don't think Charles Darwin's theories are sound, so I'm not
in the least bit tempted to baptize them with some form of theistic evolution.
By definition, evolution offered an explanation for how things got to be the way they are without
God (I'm referring to what's known as the "general theory of evolution"). This is why it made
such a splash. Do you think that if God could be worked into the evolutionary picture, then
evolution would have taken off the way it did? Of course not.
Richard Dawkins, author of The Blind Watchmaker and one of the world's preeminent
evolutionists, was right when he said that Darwin made the world safe for atheism. But if
Darwinism can be easily baptized with theism, how can it be that Darwin made the world safe
for atheism? It's precisely because evolution seemed to explain things that used to require the
existence of God to explain them that Darwinism became so popular and accepted within ten to
fifteen years after Origin of Species was published in 1859. It's precisely because God is out of
the picture that evolution is so appealing.
When you listen to evolutionists like Harvard paleontologist Stephen J. Gould, he's very willing
to admit you can believe in God and also be an evolutionist. No problem. But that doesn't mean
Gould approves of theistic evolution. Gould means that plenty of his friends believe in God, but
their belief in God is a religious thing they do in their closets, inside their homes and behind the
closed doors o.

While the titles and specific responsibilities of nurse informaticists vary across organizations and practice settings, the fundamental purpose of the role remains the same. Nurse informaticists synthesize their knowledge of how technology can improve health care with an understanding of clinical practice and workflow. This is why nurse informaticists can be instrumental in facilitating the SDLC for informatics in health care. For this Discussion, you examine the relationship between the nurse informaticist and the use of the SDLC.
To prepare:
Review the information in this week’s Learning Resources on the SDLC and the role of the nurse informaticist. Reflect on Chapter 1 of the Dennis, Wixom, and Roth course text and consider how the information about the systems analyst role translates into nursing and health care.

Advanced practice nurses must be able to differentiate between moderate and severe respiratory disorders, as well as properly diagnose and prescribe treatment for their patients. For this reason, you must have an understanding of the pathophysiology of respiratory disorders.
Consider the following three scenarios:
Scenario 1:
Ms. Teel brings in her 7-month-old infant for evaluation. She is afraid that the baby might have respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) because she seems to be coughing a lot, and Ms. Teel heard that RSV is a common condition for infants. A detailed patient history reveals that the infant has been coughing consistently for several months. It’s never seemed all that bad. Ms. Teel thought it was just a normal thing, but then she read about RSV. Closer evaluation indicates that the infant coughs mostly at night; and, in fact, most nights the baby coughs to some extent. Additionally, Ms. Teel confirms that the infant seems to cough more when she cries. Physical examination reveals an apparently healthy age- and weight-appropriate, 7-month-old infant with breath sounds that are clear to auscultation. The infant’s medical history is significant only for eczema that was actually quite bad a few months back. Otherwise, the only remarkable history is an allergic reaction to amoxicillin that she experienced 3 months ago when she had an ear infection.
Scenario 2:
Kevin is a 6-year-old boy who is brought in for evaluation by his parents. The parents are concerned that he has a really deep cough that he just can’t seem to get over. The history reveals that he was in his usual state of good health until approximately 1 week ago when he developed a profound cough. His parents say that it is deep and sounds like he is barking. He coughs so hard that sometimes he actually vomits. The cough is productive for mucus, but there is no blood in it. Kevin has had a low-grade temperature but nothing really high. His parents do not have a thermometer and don’t know for sure how high it got. His past medical history is negative. He has never had childhood asthma or RSV. His mother says that they moved around a lot in his first 2 years and she is not sure that his immunizations are up to date. She does not have a current vaccination record.
Scenario 3:
Maria is a 36-year-old who presents for evaluation of a cough. She is normally a healthy young lady with no significant medical history. She takes no medications and does not smoke. She reports that she was in her usual state of good health until approximately 3 weeks ago when she developed a “really bad cold.” The cold is characterized by a profound, deep, mucus-produci.

Empowerment practice is based on a collaborative relationship between worker and client, initiated to promote the client's power through self-actualization, self-determination, and the fulfillment of personal goals (Gutierrez, Parsons, & Cox, 1998). Further, this process includes increasing your clients' awareness of the structural oppression that exists and its impact on them. It is the role of social workers to empower clients and to bring about awareness of the inequalities that exist in society. This is done two fold—through work with clients on the micro and mezzo levels and on a macro level through work in organizations and communities.
Social workers cannot effectively empower clients without first understanding the mechanisms of oppression and how they impact their day-to-day work. Then social workers can recognize the impact on their clients' lives and apply the appropriate skills.

Do this here on the Darwin's Dangerous Ideas topic in the Discussions. Next, read all the discussion postings by your classmates and respond to one of their thoughts with a second posting of at least 200 words. Note: For both posts, simply saying "I agree" is not a substantive contribution. Your post must support your position, and reflect the concepts and characteristics covered in the Evolution Powerpoint presentation and the Darwin videos. Each posting is worth 20 points for a total of 40 points. There is no grading rubric used for this assignment. A couple of guidelines for the Darwin Discussion. I want the discussion to focus on science, not on personal beliefs. This is a science class, not a theology class. Remember, for us to examine a scientific idea we must work in the realm of the physical, the measurable, and the perceivable. It is OK to comment on how Darwin struggled with the persecution of the church and how that still occurs today, however, I do not want a discussion, description, or debate on your personal beliefs. This is not meant to insult anyone's personal beliefs, it is just difficult to debate your beliefs on this discussion board. One way to focus your thoughts is to type them in a word processing program and then later cut- and-paste them into the Discussion posting. This allows you time to think about what you want to say and to save your response. Finally, if you want to debate anything, you must provide literature citations or references for your argument - we are interested in facts and data - not opinions - no exceptions. - 2. I found this video about Darwin very interesting. I’ve never really thought much of evolution, but watching this made me more aware and more interested in it. Evolution is the process in which different living organisms have changed, or evolved, to be what they are today. Darwin collected different animal species, but the one that stood out most to me were the finches. As they studied these birds they learned that all of them were finches and that all of them had their similarities, yet all of them were different. Darwin believed that they all came from the same ancestors, and that they had slowly adapted to their own habitats over time, which made them different from one another. Darwin noticed this in all of his findings. Darwin was a man that no matter what anyone said or thought he kept studying, and kept writing his book even though he could get in trouble by the church for his beliefs. Darwin believed it was science, not God that had made this happen. But everyone he told thought he was crazy. There were many, many people who fought Darwin on this, and many people who judged him for his theory, and few who gave this theory a chance. Darwin began a theory that would be studied and added to later on, a theory that scientists today use, and a theory of how this world came to be.
