Discouragement is a negative force that pulls people back and causes them to lose steps forward. People can become discouraged when their efforts don't yield results, when others oppose them, or when tasks seem greater than available resources. Once discouragement takes hold, it can become a cycle where the devil whispers lies that are believed, fueling more discouragement. To overcome discouragement, one should stay close to God through prayer, remember the adversary wants to put people down, have assurance in God's presence, believe God's word, cast worries on Him, and develop an encouraging spirit for others.
