3. Who were the 72 Disciples apart from
the 12 Apostles?
• Jesus chose the 12 Apostles to be his closest
friend and leaders of the church.
• Jesus send the 72 Disciples as his herald or
precursor before he would come to visit each
town and its people. (Is. 40:3)
• Average individuals like us
• Criteria of Jesus in choosing these individuals
God sees the heart not the
appearance/position/possession
(1 Samuel 16:7)
The heart that is willing to do what God
wills (Jn 14:23)
The heart that says “Wherever you go I
shall go” (Ruth 1:16)
4. The 10 Instructions of Jesus to the 72 Disciples
- and Now to Us in our Mission of Evangelization
1. Go in Pairs (Luke 10:3). This is “the Church = the Body of Christ” is all about. The power of support from
family/friend/partner in ministering to others. We need each other.
2. Be Wary & Ready (Luke 10:3). We will be like lambs among wolves, the mission is not easy. It will be
full of danger and difficulty.
3. Live by Faith (Luke 10:4). Do not carry extra provisions. We carry the message of Jesus and we don’t
need to be burdened down with so many material things.
4. Be Focused (Luke 10:4). Greet no one along the road and don not allow ourselves to be sidetracked and
distracted from the more important mission of evangelism.
5. Extend your Blessing (Luke 10:5–6). Whoever accepts/helps us. Bless them with the God’s peace,
“Peace to this house and to those who live in it.”
6. Be Content (Luke 10:7) .Do not seek better accommodations/comfort; stay in the home that first
received us whatever the circumstances maybe.
7. Receive your Due (Luke 10:7). The laborer is worthy of his wages (1 Timothy 5:17–18). Doing
evangelistic work is already a gain in itself and the final reward is Eternal Life in Heaven.
8. Be Flexible (Luke 10:7–8). We are to eat whatever our hosts serve us; God’s servants are not entitled
people but grateful workers.
9. Heal the Sick (Luke 10:9)/Cast out demons (verse 17). Jesus gave us specific authority to heal diseases
and cast out evil spirits. To comfort those who are hurting – to do the corporal works of mercy.
10.Proclaim the Kingdom (Luke 10:9). The message was simple: “The kingdom of God has come.” This
was a clear-cut call to faith in the King and Savior who would soon visit our villages/homes/hearts.
