This document provides directions for a civil liberties activity where students will: 1) Complete a questionnaire about their opinions on civil liberties amendments. 2) Review key civil liberties amendments, wartime examples, and court cases about detention and the military. 3) Decide how court cases should be ruled and why based on what they learned. 4) Summarize arguments for and against detention and military commissions, incorporating comments from others. 5) Identify the most compelling arguments and which side has constitutional support. 6) Write a paragraph giving their opinion on the current balance between national security and civil liberties.
