Introduction
My name is Gayatri Patel, a Business and Marketing Student at
Seneca College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am creating this
presentation for one of my assignment to create a Digital digest on
a marketing campaign. The criteria to select the campaign is that it
must be different, thought provoking and keeps you glued to your
seat until the ads are over. The kind which makes you look up the
company and think how their products can make your life better. I
am going with ‘The Squatty Potty’ Unicorn campaign.

Company
History
• Like all successful companies, squatty potty was founded in a garage by
the Edwards family.
• It all began when Bobby Edwards’ mother, Judy was suffering from
constipation. Family doctor advised squatting whenever she had to use the
restroom. Squatting changed Judy’s life forever, she wasn’t constipated
anymore and was leading a much healthier life.
• So, Bobby and his father designed a stool for squatting, which would later
change a lot of lives. Initially, they sent out the stools to known
influencers who could plug their product online and the response was a
massive $1M dollar generated in sales.
• No looking back after this

A Shark Boost • Within three weeks of Securing a $350,000 investment from a Shark, SquattyPotty was able to sell
products worth $4M in 2013.

The Ad

The Unicorn AD
• If all the progress Edwards’ made so far wasn’t enough, Squatty Potty
pulled a stroke of marketing genius with it’s Unicorn ad.
• The ad basically featured a Unicorn pooping ice cream, Why ice cream
you might ask. Because “It’s not OK to talk about poop, but it’s OK to talk
about ice cream.” said Bill Edwards.
• The main idea of the commercial was to show off the product in a
unique and intriguing way, which quote “changes how you poop forever
and changes ice-cream forever”. The ad has pulled over 40M views so
far.
• The ad was hilarious, mind-blowing and yielded 600% more sales online
and 200% increase in retail sales generating $31M in sales over the net 2
years.

My Thoughts
• Why this campaign worked?. The ad had
multiple moments of brilliance. To begin with a
unicorn pooping ice-cream and the children
enjoying is nothing short of humorously brilliant.
• The intention of this ad was to make create
awareness amongst people. To make them
understand, they can clean their bowels in one go
with their product.
