The digestive system is made up of a long twisting tube from the mouth to the anus that helps break down food and absorb nutrients. Key parts include the mouth, which breaks down food, the liver which breaks down fats and filters toxins, and the stomach where chemical and mechanical digestion takes place before food moves into the intestines. The pancreas produces enzymes to further break down food while the salivary glands and esophagus begin digestion in the mouth and throat.
